RES. 300</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210714">July 14, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S404">Mr. Scott of Florida</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S350">Mr. Rubio</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was considered and agreed to</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Honoring the memories of the victims of the building collapse in Surfside, Florida, on June 24, 2021, and the bravery and selfless service of the individuals who responded to the building collapse.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, on Thursday, June 24, 2021, portions of the Champlain Towers South condominium building in Surfside, Florida, catastrophically collapsed;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, in the aftermath of the devastating collapse—</text><paragraph id="id858338847A1A40C0A00AAA316E39BD67"><enum>(1)</enum><text>one of the largest rescue and recovery operations in the history of the United States commenced to locate scores of residents who were unaccounted for and believed to be in the collapsed building;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id0A5BA0D2525A4C598B5A062B5B85E116"><enum>(2)</enum><text>first responders from across the State of Florida immediately answered the call of duty, including firefighters, uniformed police officers, rescue and recovery crews, emergency medical technicians, physicians, nurses, and others rushing to save the lives of individuals trapped in the building;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id24129822C10B4D80866F29F419448B04"><enum>(3)</enum><text>international rescue crews and emergency support organizations from Israel and Mexico responded to the site to aid in the search and recovery efforts;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idFCCEC2538C1B4141AD69BE8F013C733A"><enum>(4)</enum><text>National Urban Search and Rescue Response System task forces from Florida, Virginia, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, as well as emergency specialists from California, deployed to Surfside, Florida, to provide critical support;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idB2B4118AC0E0403C81866B969771E031"><enum>(5)</enum><text>numerous volunteer organizations and individuals from across the United States and around the world responded to Surfside, Florida, to support the community and provide aid, resources, and assistance to individuals in need; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id5e99271de1c84d28963edf3c912255a4"><enum>(6)</enum><text>teams worked tirelessly around the clock to rescue survivors and recover the remains of individuals killed in the tragic collapse; </text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the building collapse in Surfside, Florida, led to significant injuries and the heartbreaking loss of life; and </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas this devastating building collapse has been met with an overwhelming outpouring of support from the people of the United States and people throughout the world, who continue to pray for the victims, their families, and all individuals affected by this tragedy: Now, therefore, be it </text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id2a46902f19564ffb973bfb0afe7cd8e4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>commends the bravery and selfless service demonstrated by the local, State, national, and international teams of first responders deployed in the aftermath of the collapse of the Champlain Towers South condominium building in Surfside, Florida, on June 24, 2021;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id5fabf8b02f3e48a6bb00e301092538e8"><enum>(2)</enum><text>commemorates the lives lost in the tragic building collapse and offers heartfelt condolences to the families, loved ones, and friends of the victims; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id61210b7c737c42168402a5c04db88923"><enum>(3)</enum><text>expresses sincere gratitude to the countless organizations and individuals offering resources, support, and comfort to the survivors and community in Surfside, Florida. </text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
