RES. 279</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210617">June 17, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S402">Ms. Rosen</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S373">Mr. Cassidy</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Designating June 21, 2021 through June 25, 2021, as <quote>National Cybersecurity Education Week</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, according to a 2017 projection, the United States will face a shortage of 1,800,000 cybersecurity workers by 2022;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas recent cyberattacks on the United States have highlighted the cybersecurity workforce shortage in the United States that—</text><paragraph id="idf1b2049cd43745068d62d4d413807322"><enum>(1)</enum><text>poses a threat to the national security of the United States;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idd6887f9f3f5e4dcbaefc79662374e390"><enum>(2)</enum><text>jeopardizes the economy of the United States;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idb54751644bce4109b89d0fe70726efd1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>puts the digital privacy of the United States at risk; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idae66055fd1f6429aa674d4734c73355f"><enum>(4)</enum><text>threatens the critical infrastructure of the United States;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas expanding cybersecurity education opportunities is important to address the cybersecurity workforce shortage and prepare the United States for ongoing and future national security threats;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas cybersecurity education can provide learning and career opportunities for kindergarten through grade 12 students across the United States, as well as bolster the capacity of the domestic workforce to defend the United Sates and secure the economy of the United States;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, in 2020, introduced as part of the Providing Resources for Ongoing Training and Education in Cyber Technologies Act of 2020 and enacted as part of the William M. (Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/116/283">Public Law 116–283</external-xref>), Congress authorized the Cybersecurity Education Training Assistance Program, a Department of Homeland Security initiative to provide cybersecurity career awareness, curricular resources, and professional development to elementary and secondary schools; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas ensuring access to cybersecurity education for all students in the United States regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or geographic location will expand opportunities for good-paying jobs in high-demand fields: Now, therefore, be it </text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id4baf350163bf46a693564b5534b97d6d"><enum>(1)</enum><text>designates June 21, 2021 through June 25, 2021, as <quote>National Cybersecurity Education Week</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idf480d56355494ce687ec30e88ce28133"><enum>(2)</enum><text>encourages the people of the United States to acknowledge the importance of cybersecurity education;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id0896fc4c1fcd45d494519787aa2b30a1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>encourages educational and training institutions to increase the understanding and awareness of cybersecurity education at such institutions; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id6264538ed66f481aa565aa0574ae0eed"><enum>(4)</enum><text>commits to—</text><subparagraph id="idc458e56d2e784235b851ef4ede23fee2"><enum>(A)</enum><text>raising awareness about cybersecurity education; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id59f3cf0e7fc543b39959402a784a4e4a"><enum>(B)</enum><text>taking legislative actions to address cybersecurity education expansion and address the cybersecurity workforce shortage. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
