an amended preamble</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Honoring the memory of the fallen heroes of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew.</official-title></form><preamble commented="no"><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>Granite Mountain Hotshots</quote>) was organized within the Prescott, Arizona, Fire Department;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the Granite Mountain Hotshots was originally formed in 2002 as a fuels mitigation crew, but later transitioned to a hotshot crew in 2008, becoming the first municipal hotshot crew in the United States;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the mission of the Granite Mountain Hotshots was to perform physically demanding fireline work in hazardous conditions, on difficult terrain, and in extreme heat;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas, on June 28, 2013, lightning ignited the Yarnell Hill Fire on a ridge west of the community of Yarnell, Arizona;</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas, on June 30, 2013, 19 firefighters of the Granite Mountain Hotshots gave their lives battling the Yarnell Hill Fire in Yavapai County, Arizona, including—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the largest wildland firefighter loss of life in 80 years; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id56144307293A4019B8BCBDDDF784E8B1" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the sixth deadliest firefighter tragedy in the history of the United States; and </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id45BB174431E04DBEB89C7A2837563BB6" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the greatest loss of life for fire services in the United States since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas, on July 9, 2013, thousands of people attended a memorial service held in Prescott Valley, Arizona, including then-Vice President Joseph R. Biden and representatives from more than 100 hotshot crews from across the United States; and</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas the memory of each fallen firefighter is honored at the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park, which was dedicated in 2016: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="OLC" display-resolving-clause="yes-display-resolving-clause"><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id519059d5e8bc4aa6bcd9dc4443d7074f" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">honors the memory of the fallen heroes of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew of the Prescott, Arizona, Fire Department;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="ide84bc4f8e95f4862931870fb12691866" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">extends its deepest condolences and sympathy to the surviving families of the 19 firefighters lost in the line of duty; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idda4a6cadedb34585b63bc1e526f5a570" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">commends the bravery and sacrifice made by these fallen wildland firefighters in the service of their communities.</text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
