RES. 238</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210526">May 26, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S412">Mr. Tuberville</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S376">Ms. Ernst</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S398">Mr. Cramer</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S415">Mr. Warnock</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S410">Ms. Lummis</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S404">Mr. Scott of Florida</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S397">Mr. Braun</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S407">Mr. Hagerty</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S344">Mr. Hoeven</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Recognizing and honoring the sacrifices and accomplishments of the Greatest Generation.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas over 16,000,000 individuals in the United States served in the Armed Forces during World War II;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, of the over 16,000,000 men and women who served the United States during World War II, over 400,000 lost their lives fighting for the freedoms and liberties individuals in the United States hold dear;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas factory workers across the United States produced the weapons, vehicles, and other materiels essential to the victorious triumph of the United States and the Allied Powers in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, during World War II, individuals in the United States—</text><paragraph id="id96649BFE808A4A27BD82F97072705BED"><enum>(1)</enum><text>bought war bonds to support the immense cost of the war; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="idC72DBB40343447ABA08B807587243BCA"><enum>(2)</enum><text>planted victory gardens; and </text></paragraph><paragraph id="idDFFBF77B19004246A3539EB0C8C971EB"><enum>(3)</enum><text>donated tires, pots and pans, and any other spare parts to be used by the Armed Forces;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, during World War II, the United States unified in ways never seen before, ensuring victory for the United States and the Allied Powers;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, having borne the high cost of freedom, the Greatest Generation devoted themselves in record numbers following World War II—</text><paragraph id="id282C6715EEF14366BA102D40CD945843"><enum>(1)</enum><text>to continued service in the Armed Forces; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id78FEB0756B004A668CDD155DD101E157"><enum>(2)</enum><text>to the industry of the United States; and </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id9208C35F0C2344E1BA59FA8F377CBE67"><enum>(3)</enum><text>to public service as elected officials across the United States; </text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, in their post-World War II roles, the Greatest Generation became known for their unswerving patriotism, holding to values such as placing—</text><paragraph id="idA4DA29E06C274BDB86E0DA9DD31BC7D2"><enum>(1)</enum><text>duty above personal gain; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="idF0140AD5913046A3BA06B4389F64F258"><enum>(2)</enum><text>cooperation before conflict; and </text></paragraph><paragraph id="idC3660819AC584FA38F069218371C0C70"><enum>(3)</enum><text>the needs of country first; and</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas those values, forged by the war of their youth but never forgotten, drove the Greatest Generation to guide the United States to heights of prosperity, generosity, peace, and influence never before achieved by any nation to grace the face of the Earth: Now, therefore, be it </text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="ida625f59da3d1489d99b1d0b0bbabc5a2"><enum>(1)</enum><text>recognizes and honors the sacrifices and accomplishments of the Greatest Generation, who contributed to the success of the United States and the Allied Powers during World War II; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="ide07e221112984e3eab34c64c09b1d98f"><enum>(2)</enum><text>encourages all individuals in the United States—</text><subparagraph id="id055BA06E7BE347DFAA646FFA0BF68C18"><enum>(A)</enum><text>to celebrate the Greatest Generation; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idD539FAB8F8A04375BCDA08A163C039A2"><enum>(B)</enum><text>to remember the way the Greatest Generation united under extreme enemy threat and at great risk to themselves to protect the freedom and liberty afforded to all individuals in the United States.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
