which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSVA00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To honor and recognize the patriotism and service to the United States provided by Veterans Service Organizations during the COVID–19 pandemic.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, throughout the United States, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID–19) pandemic (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>pandemic</quote>) has devastated veterans and their families; </text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Department of Veterans Affairs (referred to in this preamble as the <quote>VA</quote>) has tested or treated over 230,000 cases of COVID–19 and has recorded over 10,000 known deaths caused by COVID–19;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas over 1,000,000 veterans lost their jobs because of the pandemic, with veteran unemployment reaching nearly 12 percent in April 2020;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas many veterans have experienced feelings of isolation and loneliness caused by the public health restrictions needed to curb the spread of COVID–19;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, since their inception, Veterans Service Organizations (referred to in this preamble as <quote>VSOs</quote>) have always supported and advocated on behalf of members of the Armed Forces, veterans, and their families;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas VSOs have adapted to the unique challenges posed by the pandemic in order to continue to support veterans and advocate for the veteran community;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas members of VSOs have fostered a sense of connection and community amid the pandemic by—</text><paragraph id="idA8C8B49AC48747C58D79CF25EE8A86EE"><enum>(1)</enum><text>calling, emailing, or writing to fellow veterans;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idF3603AAF6AE74A04A5FDD2E68856D0ED"><enum>(2)</enum><text>delivering food and groceries to fellow veterans and their families; and </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id793CA64197444567B8BF947F62E0A13C"><enum>(3)</enum><text>hosting virtual and socially distanced events;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas members of VSOs have conducted thousands of peer-wellness checks to combat the ongoing mental health crisis that has been exacerbated by the pandemic;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas VSOs have continued to help veterans access healthcare during the pandemic by—</text><paragraph id="idE40823E5F1494ED6996CBBADDBB1E044"><enum>(1)</enum><text>assisting veterans with enrollment in VA healthcare plans;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id269353D759114C4B8F49E76E5B05CB56"><enum>(2)</enum><text>enabling access to telehealth; and </text></paragraph><paragraph id="idD2CA38D0E0484D789DAABC981E66684C"><enum>(3)</enum><text>providing hundreds of thousands of rides to medical appointments;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas VSOs have helped veterans find employment by—</text><paragraph id="idF9285A0D677E4D7FBD7EE78B4953822B"><enum>(1)</enum><text>connecting veterans to employers; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id5B7B8D14CEDE41A6B9EBAEF7EEFDFFCB"><enum>(2)</enum><text>hosting virtual job fairs; and </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id388A14211833435280BD541319FB9A32"><enum>(3)</enum><text>providing online job search resources;</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas representatives of VSOs have helped hundreds of thousands of veterans navigate a VA benefits claims process that has been changed by the pandemic;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas VSOs are playing an essential role in encouraging all veterans to get vaccinated;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas members of VSOs are volunteering at vaccination sites across the United States to help their fellow veterans and all other individuals in the United States receive the COVID–19 vaccine; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas VSOs will continue to play an instrumental role representing and supporting the veteran community as the United States moves forward on the path towards recovering from the pandemic: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id14430ea0ab69409a9798cc1a7fa6f603"><enum>(1)</enum><text>honors and recognizes the patriotism and service to the United States provided by Veterans Service Organizations (referred to in this resolution as <quote>VSOs</quote>) during the COVID–19 pandemic;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id0b09794da51249ea8d016a4a73d06d19"><enum>(2)</enum><text>commends efforts by VSOs to improvise and adapt to the challenges posed by COVID–19 to continue to support veterans in need, especially those left most vulnerable by the COVID–19 pandemic; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id2727601b92b84babb0ce14732261a4ef"><enum>(3)</enum><text>supports efforts by VSOs to enable veterans, their families, and their caregivers to receive the COVID–19 vaccine.</text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
