RES. 4</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210122">January 22, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S350">Mr. Rubio</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S398">Mr. Cramer</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S396">Mrs. Blackburn</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S391">Mr. Young</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S401">Mr. Romney</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S266">Mr. Crapo</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S351">Mr. Toomey</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S372">Mrs. Capito</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S384">Mr. Tillis</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S349">Mr. Portman</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S287">Mr. Cornyn</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S397">Mr. Braun</cosponsor>) introduced the following joint resolution; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>JOINT RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes"> Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to require that the Supreme Court of the United States be composed of not more than 9 justices.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="id72358907658303873611"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the following article is proposed as an amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven years after the date of its submission by the Congress:</text><quoted-block style="constitutional-amendment" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ID1629239E7133467AA2CE74BA22185E08"><constitution-article commented="no" id="ID3F77DAE6D065403FBFBC59A6F7E765CA"><enum> —</enum><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="section-one" id="ID7C3A6CD4A4984BC397A8E8CB2E990D9A"><enum>1.</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Supreme Court of the United States shall be composed of not more than 9 justices.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="section-one" id="id33B4A6FDB5654CE3A898DB3772CEF4CE"><enum>2.</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.</text></section></constitution-article><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></resolution-body></resolution>
