<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 957</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210324">March 24, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S389">Mr. Kennedy</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S397">Mr. Braun</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSVA00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to ensure that certain medical facilities of the Department of Veterans Affairs have physical locations for the disposal of controlled substances medications.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H9DA09AC0DD2942C9887CA5D1F6D772A5"><section section-type="section-one" id="HC6840BD8B27745F3A3639DA1481B131E"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Dispose Unused Medications and Prescription Opioids Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>DUMP Opioids Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H5D9F59D0508A46AEB41F05DAB86BD00B"><enum>2.</enum><header>Requirement for certain Department of Veterans Affairs medical facilities to have physical location for the disposal of controlled substances medications</header><subsection id="id4ba4545c73a440768d4515d979e08a72"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>The Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall ensure that each covered Department medical facility has a physical location where any individual may dispose of controlled substances medications.</text></subsection><subsection id="id5e9bd7c6595346df94a944bdde15a95c"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Covered Department medical facility defined</header><text>In this section, the term <term>covered Department medical facility</term> means a medical facility of the Department of Veterans Affairs with an onsite pharmacy or a physical location dedicated for law enforcement purposes.</text></subsection><subsection id="id0b3a97b4cf3f455382a6139f71a88cdb"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>This section shall take effect on January 1, 2022.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
