<congress display="yes">117th CONGRESS</congress><session display="yes">1st Session</session><legis-num display="yes">S. 854</legis-num><current-chamber display="no">IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><legis-type display="yes">AN ACT</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To designate methamphetamine as an emerging threat, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="S1" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Methamphetamine Response Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="idf1b405e9afb944c8bbbe6d5b999f97f4" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Declaration of emerging threat</header><subsection id="id4E7D6AA880E5492D96398095DB5473B9" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(a)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Congress declares methamphetamine an emerging drug threat, as defined in section 702 of the Office of National Drug Control Policy Reauthorization Act of 1998 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/21/1701">21 U.S.C. 1701</external-xref>), in the United States.</text></subsection><subsection id="id84ebb5a6f9304ddc863a2809220c6a5c" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(b)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Required emerging threat response plan</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 90 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy shall establish and implement an Emerging Threat Response Plan that is specific to methamphetamine in accordance with section 709(d) of the Office of National Drug Control Policy Reauthorization Act of 1998 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/21/1708">21 U.S.C. 1708(d)</external-xref>). </text></subsection></section></legis-body><attestation><attestation-group><attestation-date date="20211213" chamber="Senate">Passed the Senate December 13, 2021.</attestation-date><attestor display="no"></attestor><role>Secretary</role></attestation-group></attestation><endorsement display="yes"></endorsement></bill>
