<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 748</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210315">March 15, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S324">Mrs. Shaheen</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S252">Ms. Collins</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSFI00">Committee on Finance</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To provide for an extension of the temporary suspension of Medicare sequestration during the COVID–19 public health emergency.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="id46B3F79658CE47D68AFB3732E4A33C03" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Medicare Sequester Relief Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="idA122C8A0D8D04B80AABDE176A01BEF62"><enum>2.</enum><header>Extension of temporary suspension of medicare sequestration</header><subsection id="idc6866fd0709a4e4ea1676ffda39b3f77"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Section 3709(a) of division A of the CARES Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/2/901a">2 U.S.C. 901a</external-xref> note), as amended by section 102 of division N of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/116/136">Public Law 116–136</external-xref>), is amended by striking <quote>March 31, 2021</quote> and inserting <quote>the last day of the emergency period described in section 1135(g)(1)(B) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1320b-5">42 U.S.C. 1320b–5(g)(1)(B)</external-xref>)</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="id47ea695279554c5f8d95128c99ae8186"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Extension of direct spending reductions through fiscal year 2031</header><text>Section 251A(6) of the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/2/901a">2 U.S.C. 901a(6)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="id1D4B6CF99A1040CF803A7EEB1118DEEC"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (B), in the matter preceding clause (i), by striking <quote>through 2030</quote> and inserting <quote>through 2031</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id872238378D274174BC6698F9AB0C9AFC"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subparagraph (C), in the matter preceding clause (i), by striking <quote>fiscal year 2030</quote> and inserting <quote>fiscal year 2031</quote>. </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="idbe8fe7b5aa354adfac7ed5d2a0513976"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall take effect as if enacted as part of the CARES Act (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/116/136">Public Law 116–136</external-xref>). </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
