<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 724</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210311">March 11, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S409">Mr. Luján</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S293">Mr. Graham</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S385">Ms. Cortez Masto</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S316">Mr. Whitehouse</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S370">Mr. Booker</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S369">Mr. Markey</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S247">Mr. Wyden</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S403">Ms. Sinema</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSCM00">Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To require the Federal Communications Commission to make the provision of Wi-Fi access on school buses eligible for E-rate support.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="S1"><enum>1.</enum><header>E-rate support for school bus Wi-Fi</header><subsection id="id7223228F8CD94868BE8ABC5AF9C8504A"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Definition</header><text>In this section, the term <term>school bus</term> means a passenger motor vehicle that is—</text><paragraph id="id0C3D5A6C60034D589E0F2DFCABAD520C"><enum>(1)</enum><text>designed to carry a driver and not less than 5 passengers; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idD637F0CD26554C279114617CC005AAD2"><enum>(2)</enum><text>used significantly to transport early child education, elementary school, or secondary school students to or from school or an event related to school.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id648B241C1C47410386F46EC78E7F403C"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Rulemaking</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding the limitations under paragraphs (1)(B) and (2)(A) of section 254(h) of the Communications Act of 1934 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/47/254">47 U.S.C. 254(h)</external-xref>) regarding the authorized recipients and uses of discounted telecommunications services, not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Federal Communications Commission shall commence a rulemaking to make the provision of Wi-Fi access on school buses eligible for support under the E-rate program of the Commission set forth under subpart F of part 54 of title 47, Code of Federal Regulations.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
