<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 695</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210310">March 10, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S385">Ms. Cortez Masto</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S398">Mr. Cramer</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSEV00">Committee on Environment and Public Works</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To improve the Safe Routes to School Program, and for other purposes. </official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="S1"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Safe Routes to All Schools Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section><section id="H74D84267DC834D7299F83A625765973D" changed="not-changed"><enum>2.</enum><header>Safe routes to school program</header><subsection changed="not-changed" id="id4D472BD13CC744DB893036A4BA0D218A"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Sense of Congress</header><text>It is the sense of Congress that—</text><paragraph changed="not-changed" id="idFEAFFFD085164C4FB135AC351A00B74D"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the safe routes to school program under section 1404 of SAFETEA–LU (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/23/402">23 U.S.C. 402</external-xref> note; <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/109/59">Public Law 109–59</external-xref>) (referred to in this subsection as the <quote>program</quote>) should be expanded to include high school students as well as primary and middle school students;</text></paragraph><paragraph changed="not-changed" id="id24F513C377E948C0BCAF623FB4BD6335"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the program helps ensure the safety of children; and</text></paragraph><paragraph changed="not-changed" id="id42F5542952F84372B3CE3ADEB8675CBB"><enum>(3)</enum><text>Congress should continue to provide funding for this important program. </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection changed="not-changed" id="id9A43E3C7EDF741D898972BB3E93168CA"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Safe routes to school</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1404 of SAFETEA–LU (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/23/402">23 U.S.C. 402</external-xref> note; <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/109/59">Public Law 109–59</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="H96F948CE54FD45CDA603BAA1551922F6" changed="not-changed"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (a), by striking <quote>primary and middle</quote> and inserting <quote>primary, middle, and high</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H512320450DCC4AB1B83375A313B294F6" changed="not-changed"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (k)(2)—</text><subparagraph id="H5D92CF3F9EDC4F5DA60AF05299A2A4D2" changed="not-changed"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in the heading, by striking <quote><header-in-text level="paragraph" style="OLC">Primary and middle</header-in-text></quote> and inserting <quote><header-in-text level="paragraph" style="OLC">Primary, middle, and high</header-in-text></quote>;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H74E053060E70489CB93C7414CDD4DBEB" changed="not-changed"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by striking <quote>primary and middle</quote> and inserting <quote>primary, middle, and high</quote>; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HD71EF69C9FC04056A58D23DFEC1CE3EF" changed="not-changed"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by striking <quote>eighth grade</quote> and inserting <quote>12th grade</quote>. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
