<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 657</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210310">March 10, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S343">Mr. Boozman</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S314">Mr. Tester</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S247">Mr. Wyden</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S331">Mrs. Gillibrand</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S366">Ms. Warren</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S349">Mr. Portman</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S388">Ms. Hassan</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S397">Mr. Braun</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSVA00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To modify the presumption of service connection for veterans who were exposed to herbicide agents while serving in the Armed Forces in Thailand during the Vietnam era, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H5E363D7BE7E441EAA707DD2C7784FED6"><section section-type="section-one" id="id63D2872664AC4910868B2B0A118914CC"><enum>1.</enum><header>Modification of presumption of service connection for veterans who were exposed to herbicide agents while serving in the Armed Forces in Thailand during the Vietnam era</header><subsection id="idEF60712D0A0B46CBADFA47DEDE41E823"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall ensure that if the Secretary creates a presumption of service connection between the occurrence of a disease and exposure to a herbicide agent while serving in the Armed Forces during the covered period at a military base in Thailand, such presumption also applies to exposure to a herbicide agent while serving in the Armed Forces during the covered period at any military base located in Thailand without regard to where on the base the veteran was located or what military job specialty the veteran performed.</text></subsection><subsection id="id5139CE9A711F40C4BF8F858CA29726CA"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section:</text><paragraph id="idAF03D5340B3A453C9BA400C490E34273"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Covered period</header><text>The term <term>covered period</term> means the period beginning on January 9, 1962, and ending on June 30, 1976.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idAA5338F051784075BE157005D8602C72"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Herbicide agent</header><text>The term <term>herbicide agent</term> has the meaning given such term in section 1116(a) of title 38, United States Code.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idC227B2CE1F374275BF8E16F24DED0CF0"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Veteran</header><text>The term <term>veteran</term> has the meaning given such term in section 101 of title 38, United States Code.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
