<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 594</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210304">March 4, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S252">Ms. Collins</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="S403">Ms. Sinema</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S399">Mr. Hawley</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S380">Mr. Peters</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSCM00">Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To double the existing penalties for the provision of misleading or inaccurate caller identification information.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="idE0D449FF05EC4B2684335812767ED936"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Anti-Spoofing Penalties Modernization Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="idAD121BAA81BA40D0BA10E1B0426E56A7"><enum>2.</enum><header>Increasing penalties for spoofers</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline"> Section 227(e)(5) of the Communications Act of 1934 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/47/227">47 U.S.C. 227(e)(5)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="idC054AAF17A4D4BF3890208BB2F847E8E"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A)(i)—</text><subparagraph id="idCB22AC8957A44F1883A4AE6504E60F66"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking <quote>$10,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$20,000</quote>; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idFC0A582FD90143B2A168D75906D2F892"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by striking <quote>$1,000,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$2,000,000</quote>; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idF7F64577BE114FA683B9BA904024FAF8"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subparagraph (B), by striking <quote>$10,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$20,000</quote>.</text></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
