<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 559</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date>March 3, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S322">Mr. Merkley</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S247">Mr. Wyden</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SLIA00">Committee on Indian Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Grand Ronde Reservation Act, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="section-one" id="id76189f367faf459b9a4971598b3d07f4"><enum>1.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Grand Ronde Reservation Act amendment</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1(d) of <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/100/425">Public Law 100–425</external-xref> (commonly known as the <quote>Grand Ronde Reservation Act</quote>) (102 Stat. 1594) is amended—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idaa04ab544c8e4cf7adef141f129de212"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in paragraph (1), by striking <quote>lands within the State of Oregon</quote> and inserting <quote>the 84 acres known as the Thompson Strip</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idF6A3BDDDE717455E92A245636A3F599D"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by redesignating paragraph (2) as paragraph (3); and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idD8A51E0DA7A44AC887632E0400C361EB"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting after paragraph (1) the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idc4b22f043c654bea90777ff8d15b1f11"><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id90eb7dcf1ce945e1b0e8999f1a2461c0" changed="not-changed"><enum>(2)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Gaming prohibition</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Any real property obtained by the Tribes as part of a land claim settlement approved by the United States shall not be eligible, or used, for any class II gaming or class III gaming under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/25/2701">25 U.S.C. 2701</external-xref> et seq.) (as those terms are defined in section 4 of that Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/25/2703">25 U.S.C. 2703</external-xref>)).</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="subsequent-section" id="idA34ABC1F32144B69BCF0361DF8287D84"><enum>2.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Treaty rights of federally recognized Tribes</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Nothing in this Act, or an amendment made by this Act, shall be construed to enlarge, confirm, adjudicate, affect, or modify any treaty right of an Indian Tribe (as defined in section 4 of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/25/5304">25 U.S.C. 5304</external-xref>)).</text></section></legis-body></bill>
