<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 5304</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20221220">December 20, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S338">Mr. Manchin</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S366">Ms. Warren</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S327">Mr. Warner</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSGA00">Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To prohibit the closure of postal facilities during the COVID–19 public health emergency.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="id95A5F649E572451DB8D68C83628B7E05"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protect Our Services Today Act of 2022</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>POST Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="S1"><enum>2.</enum><header>Moratorium on postal facility closures</header><subsection id="idDAA3F010476C4C21A3C1D2D2CC364088"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">During the COVID–19 public health emergency period, the United States Postal Service may not close any facility of the Postal Service.</text></subsection><subsection id="id6B05D1490DA848159EE23CC4DB3F65D7"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definition</header><text>For purposes of this section, the term <term>COVID–19 public health emergency period</term>—</text><paragraph id="id72D12DE196BE4E7BB84881A94ACC37DB"><enum>(1)</enum><text>means the period of the public health emergency declared by the Secretary of Health and Human Services under section 319 of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/247d">42 U.S.C. 247d</external-xref>) with respect to COVID–19, including any renewal of that declaration; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id52EEF4D9FFF34830AA65381D709EBC3C"><enum>(2)</enum><text>includes any part of the period described in paragraph (1) that occurred before the date of enactment of this Act.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
