<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 5056</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20220929">September 29, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S376">Ms. Ernst</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S411">Mr. Marshall</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSHR00">Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To prohibit Federal funding to EcoHealth Alliance, Inc., and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="HF2B8E799D3EE413C96910420C4F829A1"><section section-type="section-one" id="H8970596E75604982A77D9A7ED40247E8"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Defund EcoHealth Alliance Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H40B9D3B34F404563B09CD364D749E716"><enum>2.</enum><header>Prohibition on Federal Funding to EcoHealth Alliance, Inc</header><subsection id="H04F24219EA574125BE0D209414F0450D"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">No funds authorized or appropriated by Federal law may be made available for any purpose to EcoHealth Alliance, Inc., including any subsidiaries and related organizations that are directly controlled by EcoHealth Alliance, Inc.</text></subsection><subsection id="HB35C22279A49464E868DFDEED5E4068F"><enum>(b)</enum><header>GAO study and report</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 2 years after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Comptroller General of the United States shall conduct a study, and submit a report to Congress, regarding the amount of Federal funds awarded to EcoHealth Alliance, Inc., during the 10-year period preceding such date of enactment, that were provided, whether purposely or inadvertently, to the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese Communist Party, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, or any agency or instrumentality of such entities. </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
