<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4882</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20220919">September 19, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S380">Mr. Peters</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S349">Mr. Portman</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSGA00">Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974 to authorize appropriations for the United States Fire Administration and firefighter assistance grant programs.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC"><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Fire Grants and Safety Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="idc6bc9183acd8491ca8355c48bdfd066a"><enum>2.</enum><header>Reauthorization of the United States Fire Administration</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 17(g)(1) of the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/2216">15 U.S.C. 2216(g)(1)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="idC4AA3DAD32244A71AB5D372036126493"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in subparagraph (L), by striking <quote>and</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id1CD0867CB8014DCD97440E4B3DC00848"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in subparagraph (M), by striking the period and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idDFF3C3F65D4C426B98F1B0B18CE2DF94"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idEB2D81400BC94F93981C890F03F8E9C5"><subparagraph id="id35512EAC80854E9D99C57237826B8E39" indent="up1"><enum>(N)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">$95,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2024 through 2030, of which $3,420,000 for each such fiscal year shall be used to carry out section 8(f).</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section><section id="iddbd5c7ec9ac842d795b95321a04863e2"><enum>3.</enum><header>Reauthorization of assistance to firefighters grants program and the fire prevention and safety grants program</header><subsection id="id7805cebc361248e5b38bba9edd0e634b"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Repeal of sunset</header><text>Section 33 of the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/2229">15 U.S.C. 2229</external-xref>) is amended by striking subsection (r).</text></subsection><subsection id="idd3f1168eba434741981ad3933b01da19"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations</header><text>Section 33(q)(1)(B) of the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/2229">15 U.S.C. 2229(q)(1)(B)</external-xref>) is amended, in the matter preceding clause (i), by striking <quote>2023</quote> and inserting <quote>2030</quote>.</text></subsection></section><section id="idccb02499bf994c42a2215bb3f890e804"><enum>4.</enum><header>Reauthorization of staffing for adequate fire and emergency response grant program</header><subsection id="id8238948de0e54d3faa7c185518deb6ff"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Repeal of sunset</header><text>Section 34 of the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/2229a">15 U.S.C. 2229a</external-xref>) is amended by striking subsection (k).</text></subsection><subsection id="idffa8efffa91643ed97d144dbec910fb6"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations</header><text>Section 34(j)(1)(I) of the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/2229a">15 U.S.C. 2229a(j)(1)(I)</external-xref>) is amended, in the matter preceding clause (i), by striking <quote>2023</quote> and inserting <quote>2030</quote>.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
