<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4819</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20220912">September 12, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S376">Ms. Ernst</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSEV00">Committee on Environment and Public Works</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To establish a minimum temperature for thermostats at the headquarters of the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Lead by Example Act of 2022</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="id03612D0DE60D41C68D5A52847279C08A"><enum>2.</enum><header>Thermostats at DOE and EPA headquarters</header><subsection id="id765470608CA64311B551B9A4FAF80D5E"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>The Secretary of Energy and the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency shall set all thermostats in the 1 or more buildings comprising the headquarters of the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency, respectively, to not lower than 78 degrees Fahrenheit when the air conditioning system is in operation.</text></subsection><subsection id="id874E57DF949F495E96C8F67326CE2A88"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Reports</header><text>Not later than 90 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Energy and the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency shall each submit to Congress a report describing the temperature at which thermostats have been set in the 1 or more buildings comprising the headquarters of the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency, respectively, during the period beginning on January 20, 2021, and ending on the date of enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
