<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4783</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20220804">August 4, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S391">Mr. Young</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSAS00">Committee on Armed Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To require the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness to carry out a pilot program on providing training to, validating, and deploying grief companions to facilitate bereavement care.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="id1a5a8b9501704fbdb2816abd479fcea7" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Doug Zembiec Gold Star Family Support Act of 2022</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="id4F048B99D7334B5EA3D1D4E612E1012F"><enum>2.</enum><header>Pilot program on grief companions following casualty notifications</header><subsection id="id1279767B04C34BCB9310B3F0286B3ABF"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Commencing not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness shall carry out a pilot program on providing training to, validating, and deploying grief companions to facilitate bereavement care provided by the Department of Defense following casualty notifications with respect to members of the Armed Forces.</text></subsection><subsection id="idE861A874546B433BAA31BDE3056BD099"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Duration</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness shall carry out the pilot program required under subsection (a) for a period of not less than one year.</text></subsection><subsection id="id1945D314AE3149098AA3FA7A5F10E79D"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">There is authorized to be appropriated to the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness $250,000 to carry out the pilot program required under subsection (a).</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
