<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4644</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20220727">July 27, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S384">Mr. Tillis</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S407">Mr. Hagerty</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSGA00">Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To reestablish the Victims of Immigrant Crime Engagement Office to provide proactive, timely, adequate, and professional services to victims of crimes committed by removable aliens and the family members of such victims.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="ida3d17ff471174f1780c2e8b23b79c0be" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Voice for Victims Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="idC7F0FBAE8CC74F97BDBCB1418C0A0E2C"><enum>2.</enum><header>Victims of Immigrant Crime Engagement Office</header><subsection id="idE93F55D7D7B343A69A6293B7D1ADE89B"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Reestablishment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Homeland Security shall direct the Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to take all appropriate and lawful action to reestablish, within U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Victims of Immigrant Crime Engagement Office (referred to in this Act as the <quote>VOICE Office</quote>, which shall provide proactive, timely, adequate, and professional services to victims of crimes committed by removable aliens and the family members of such victims. </text></subsection><subsection id="idB1BFF422970D41479C732B51C08770A6"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Quarterly reports</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The VOICE Office shall submit quarterly reports to the <committee-name committee-id="SSGA00">Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs of the Senate</committee-name>, the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary of the Senate</committee-name>, the <committee-name committee-id="">Committee on Homeland Security of the House of Representatives</committee-name>, and the <committee-name committee-id="">Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives</committee-name> that examine the effects of the victimization of United States nationals by criminal aliens who are present in the United States.</text></subsection><subsection id="id0A3B085FBACF4C41AD4F8139B39F4569"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Expansion of functions of Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman To include assistance for victims of crimes committed by aliens or border violence</header><text>Section 452(b) of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/6/272">6 U.S.C. 272(b)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="id810F4D01A11B4A6290D151C4AA556CCA"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating paragraphs (2) and (3) as paragraphs (3) and (4), respectively;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id5D64FA1D4F3B42719F6EFD2DCBB6C96D"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after paragraph (1) the following:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id55FF4128C4C1413B984D105C5B61EC0D" style="OLC"><paragraph id="idDD791ECF485245ABBE0D3F038295D02B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>to work with the Victims of Immigrant Crime Engagement Office to assist individuals and families who have been the victims of crimes committed by aliens or violence near the United States border;</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph><paragraph id="idD91F93D504B24B2DA2793816B2ECD37A"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in paragraph (4), as redesignated, by striking <quote>(2)</quote> and inserting <quote>(3)</quote>. </text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
