<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4636</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20220727">July 27, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S384">Mr. Tillis</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S398">Mr. Cramer</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S407">Mr. Hagerty</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S355">Mr. Cruz</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S395">Mrs. Hyde-Smith</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to permanently bar aliens who are ordered removed after failing to appear at a removal proceeding, absent exceptional circumstances, from becoming permanent residents of the United States.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="ida3d17ff471174f1780c2e8b23b79c0be" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Asylum Accountability Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="id43F9B6A5A5EB4DA3BFB681EEDC4DBE82"><enum>2.</enum><header>Permanent ineligibility for adjustment of status after failure to appear at removal proceeding</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 240(b)(7) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1229a">8 U.S.C. 1229a(b)(7)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>for a period of 10 years after the date of the entry of the final order of removal</quote>.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
