<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4586</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20220721">July 21, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S355">Mr. Cruz</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S378">Mr. Lankford</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSHR00">Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To keep schools physically secure using unobligated Federal funds available to the Secretary of Education to respond to the coronavirus.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H3D198C2AFBCE465B90E96C1ED9EEE102"><section section-type="section-one" id="H1C4B18C8ADFB49589CC66B65B8A057FF"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protect Our Children's Schools Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H6A2E19E503AD47B789FFCA3D6048BBE2"><enum>2.</enum><header>Keeping schools physically secure</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The unobligated balance of funds made available to carry out section 18003 of division B of the CARES Act (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/116/136">Public Law 116–136</external-xref>; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/3401">20 U.S.C. 3401</external-xref> note), section 313 of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (division M of <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/116/260">Public Law 116–260</external-xref>; 134 Stat. 1929), and section 2001 of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/117/2">Public Law 117–2</external-xref>; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/3401">20 U.S.C. 3401</external-xref> note) shall be made available to local educational agencies to keep the elementary schools and secondary schools served by such agencies physically secure.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
