<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 402</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210224">February 24, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S303">Mr. Thune</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S284">Ms. Stabenow</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S357">Mrs. Fischer</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S327">Mr. Warner</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSFI00">Committee on Finance</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015 to include a trade negotiating objective relating to addressing the security of the global communications infrastructure.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="S1"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Network Security Trade Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="id3B7F6F8999124F16A8AA0C29C074000F"><enum>2.</enum><header>Trade negotiating objective relating to security of communications networks</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 102(a) of the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/19/4201">19 U.S.C. 4201(a)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="id593D28527B964CB68A0FA7E859CFE1DF"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (14), by striking <quote>; and</quote> and inserting a semicolon;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id47DD982A4DE447A49A2942DB187E5CDC"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (15), by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id99C9F640903E48349DE6B5F661459D9B"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idA2DA710009ED4B5AB3A4A8B4E68C3D0D"><paragraph id="idE30DD9288E2E45F99E7E680B94C8F995"><enum>(16)</enum><text>to ensure that the equipment and technology that create the global communications infrastructure are not compromised by addressing—</text><subparagraph id="idDFDFB6ED56714C5489DAAF2367FE0044"><enum>(A)</enum><text>barriers to the security of communications networks and supply chains; and </text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idA81799AA77F54D1E9810C61F2CDFF894"><enum>(B)</enum><text>unfair trade practices of suppliers of communications equipment that are owned, controlled, or supported by a foreign government.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
