<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4024</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20220407">April 7, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S351">Mr. Toomey</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S330">Mr. Bennet</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSFI00">Committee on Finance</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to extend the exemption from the retirement plan early withdrawal penalty for public safety officers to State and local government corrections employees.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="idd206513bf59148f682d22a3250b62e4b" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>State and Local Corrections Officer Retirement Fairness Act of 2022</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="idB39EF1ABD0954845B9CED730C8A65748"><enum>2.</enum><header>Exemption from early withdrawal penalty for certain State and local government corrections employees</header><subsection id="id987CD7A7051044A4B9B8E8DA89D80FA3"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Clause (i) of <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/72">section 72(t)(10)(B)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by striking <quote>or emergency medical services</quote> and inserting <quote>emergency medical services, or services as a corrections officer or as a forensic security employee providing for the care, custody, and control of forensic patients</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="idD6EC656D0B344C6C97E85470902A9C9D"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendment made by this section shall apply to taxable years beginning after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
