<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 4006</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20220405">April 5, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S351">Mr. Toomey</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S309">Mr. Casey</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S314">Mr. Tester</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S372">Mrs. Capito</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S402">Ms. Rosen</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S375">Mr. Daines</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S363">Mr. King</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S404">Mr. Scott of Florida</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSAS00">Committee on Armed Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To direct the Secretary of Defense to list certain individuals who are awarded the Purple Heart on the internet website of the Department of Defense that lists individuals who have been awarded certain military awards.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="H3C9E9BFBDA4A486792773C0295510327" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Honoring Purple Heart Recipients Act of 2022</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="idF0B2593ED13346F89247C07D6A9308D2"><enum>2.</enum><header>Inclusion of Purple Heart awards on military valor website</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Secretary of Defense shall ensure that the publicly accessible internet website of the Department of Defense that lists individuals who have been awarded certain military awards includes a list of each individual who meets each of the following criteria:</text><paragraph id="H8059F277AB9C40E2868F5D9A23B90D03"><enum>(1)</enum><text>The individual is awarded the Purple Heart for qualifying actions that occur after the date of the enactment of this Act. </text></paragraph><paragraph id="H16BFDBA495F2445EB7B053786EA8869A"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The individual elects to be included on such list (or, if the individual is deceased, the primary next of kin elects the individual to be included on such list).</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id97266ADD5A894126891F491F333AF36A" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(3)</enum><text>The public release of the individual’s name does not constitute a security risk, as determined by the Secretary of the military department concerned. </text></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
