which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSAF00">Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To establish the Shenandoah Mountain National Scenic Area in the State of Virginia, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Shenandoah Mountain Act of 2022</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="idb3e95911d31048338acb2699d8ddb5c3"><enum>2.</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">In this Act:</text><paragraph id="id3d4b7c69cf154042916d4a403061970f"><enum>(1)</enum><header>National Scenic Area</header><subparagraph id="idF51061634C4042DA8A0E56B0B2614644"><enum>(A)</enum><header>In general</header><text>The term <term>National Scenic Area</term> means the Shenandoah Mountain National Scenic Area established by section 3(a).</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idD45D551C4D5F4709B889BCE64D808E7B"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Inclusions</header><text>The term <quote>National Scenic Area</quote> includes—</text><clause id="idF989CBB19E5C41F49BE64D5066D45EC1"><enum>(i)</enum><text>any National Forest System land within the boundary of the National Scenic Area that is administered as part of the National Scenic Area; and </text></clause><clause id="idF47425CE3E984FB6A77A22C1A7943C3E"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>any National Forest System land embedded in the National Scenic Area that is administered as a component of the National Wilderness Preservation System under the amendments made by section 4.</text></clause></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id2e7da454bc904065bfb22bf0acc09453"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Secretary</header><text>The term <term>Secretary</term> means the Secretary of Agriculture, acting through the Chief of the Forest Service.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id0b242a457ecc45ce86b1ac79643bbad6"><enum>(3)</enum><header>State</header><text>The term <term>State</term> means the State of Virginia.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id1ac91ae08e314eb986e3e328bed78dbc"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Wilderness area</header><text>The term <term>Wilderness Area</term> means a wilderness area designated by paragraphs (21) through (25) of section 1 of <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/100/326">Public Law 100–326</external-xref> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/16/1132">16 U.S.C. 1132</external-xref> note; 102 Stat. 584; 114 Stat. 2057; 123 Stat. 1002) (as added by section 4).</text></paragraph></section><section id="id58dc6cdd42bb48a6a1abd4043abe60d2"><enum>3.</enum><header>Establishment of the Shenandoah Mountain National Scenic Area</header><subsection id="ida8c49a9941de4819a7ad16ff10c9f8f8"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Establishment</header><text>Subject to valid existing rights, there is established the Shenandoah Mountain National Scenic Area, consisting of approximately 92,449 acres of National Forest System land in the George Washington National Forest, as generally depicted on the map filed under section 5(a)(1).</text></subsection><subsection id="id7347d5c1caca409cbf6645e5e1248b93"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Purposes</header><text>The purposes of the National Scenic Area are—</text><paragraph id="id4e2d0696df1449d9a39b938a0f345210"><enum>(1)</enum><text>to ensure the protection and preservation of the scenic quality, water quality, natural characteristics, and water resources of the National Scenic Area; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id77dd1c59bce649cca09dd223ade92a8d"><enum>(2)</enum><text>to protect wildlife, fish, and plant habitat in the National Scenic Area;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idff00aa84ddb0461b92dd2da1eb086c05"><enum>(3)</enum><text>to protect outstanding natural biological values and habitat for plant and animal species along the Shenandoah Mountain crest above 3,000 feet elevation, including the Cow Knob salamander; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="idebec5417e03b4cb7877a465a200b0739"><enum>(4)</enum><text>to protect forests in the National Scenic Area that may develop characteristics of old-growth forests;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idb5371351cd6a48718a34fa644c3a3545"><enum>(5)</enum><text>to protect the Wilderness Areas; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id10824fde851240fcb269703757d3ad89"><enum>(6)</enum><text>to provide for a variety of, and improve existing, recreation opportunities in the National Scenic Area in a manner consistent with the purposes of the National Scenic Area described in paragraphs (1) through (5).</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="idb956fb8c8bc54c039081adb93f3282fe"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Administration</header><paragraph id="id628d57204c8c4ad184e6ff1a20f1deda"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Except as provided in paragraph (2), the Secretary shall administer the National Scenic Area in accordance with—</text><subparagraph id="id0937a1b6b3f64b3b941893a0e465449e"><enum>(A)</enum><text>this section; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id9fbf62eb77464f0584b2769ee80a44f9"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the laws (including regulations) generally applicable to the National Forest System.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="ida2b03eb48f644f5e87917b6c6582cb3d" commented="no"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Exception</header><text>Subject to valid existing rights, the Secretary shall administer the Wilderness Areas in accordance with the Wilderness Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/16/1131">16 U.S.C. 1131 et seq.</external-xref>) and any other laws applicable to the Wilderness Areas, except that any reference in that Act to the effective date of that Act shall be considered to be a reference to the date of enactment of this Act for purposes of administering the Wilderness Areas. </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id5c7105eaffa64f1daa0301b13c5b0188" commented="no"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Effect; conflicts</header><subparagraph commented="no" id="id8C3976372C7D43779D777009D6789AC5"><enum>(A)</enum><header>Effect</header><text>The establishment of the National Scenic Area shall not affect the administration of the Wilderness Areas.</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" id="id7063BE4851ED4B7ABF70163D39021999"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Conflicts</header><text>In the case of any conflict between the laws applicable to the Wilderness Areas, the Wilderness Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/16/1131">16 U.S.C. 1131 et seq.</external-xref>) shall control. </text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id4e24a531da8646fe89f24f26291a3d69"><enum>(4)</enum><header>No buffer zones</header><subparagraph id="id730d6d3739494eaeb3bfc1e83ae62dd9"><enum>(A)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Nothing in this section creates a protective perimeter or buffer zone around the National Scenic Area or a Wilderness Area.</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id6ea29964c8e74df5879dcfae13a2a707"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Activities outside national scenic area or wilderness areas</header><text>The fact that an activity or use on land outside the National Scenic Area or a Wilderness Area can be seen or heard within the National Scenic Area or Wilderness Area shall not preclude the activity or use outside the boundaries of the National Scenic Area or Wilderness Area.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="idbd309ed0fccc497a92d3fa4a29bf5f50"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Recreational uses</header><paragraph id="idd1c531be9033435d8f8067b94e4aff3c"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Except as otherwise provided in this section or under applicable law, the Secretary shall authorize the continuation of, or seek to improve, authorized recreational uses of the National Scenic Area in existence on the date of enactment of this Act.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id2782decc489b42debce29bb78385404b"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Effect</header><text>Nothing in this section interferes with the authority of the Secretary— </text><subparagraph id="id4acc5d48f879449da15161460ada5644"><enum>(A)</enum><text>to maintain or improve nonmotorized trails and recreation sites within the National Scenic Area; </text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id0a832d21da8840f5bdf733efc0ec8b25"><enum>(B)</enum><text>to construct new nonmotorized trails and recreation sites within the National Scenic Area; </text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idb230a9e45ed1419baf3247b2556fa1c9"><enum>(C)</enum><text>to adjust recreational uses within the National Scenic Area for reasons of sound resource management or public safety; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id7a83d380c2314e32b1cfc7f3eeef0939"><enum>(D)</enum><text>to approve and issue or deny special use permits in connection with recreation within the National Scenic Area.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="iddaa6bb5333044499934626730e6d5597"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Requirement</header><text>Recreation within the National Scenic Area shall be conducted in a manner consistent with the purposes of the National Scenic Area described in subsection (b).</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id277a8b12d3af4fefbbaa06a2a2ecd0ab"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Trail plan</header><paragraph id="id0e6916da8d9741b8bafabac0a76644fa"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Not later than 2 years after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall develop a trail plan for National Forest System land in the National Scenic Area that is not a Wilderness Area, in order to maintain, improve, and develop nonmotorized recreation trails on the National Forest System land in a manner consistent with the purposes of the National Scenic Area described in subsection (b).</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idC1C74091457445318E350B09DECF40AC"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Potential inclusion</header><text>The Secretary may address in the trail plan developed under paragraph (1) National Forest System land that is near, but not within the boundary of, the National Scenic Area. </text></paragraph><paragraph id="ida56a912fd0b14eafa1ea169bd11dfc65"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Consultation</header><text>In developing the trail plan under paragraph (1), the Secretary shall consult with interested parties, including members of the public. </text></paragraph><paragraph id="idbea81004ca5e4a63b09f801b20f4a109"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Requirements</header><text>The trail plan developed under paragraph (1) shall—</text><subparagraph id="idaef6fceab17b44999e5829f843273986"><enum>(A)</enum><text>promote sustainable trail management that protects natural resources and provides diverse, high-quality, and safe recreation opportunities, which may include loop trails for all nonmotorized uses; </text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id21979327b540471a9c5794fbe4eed3d1"><enum>(B)</enum><text>consider natural resource protection, trail sustainability, and trail maintenance needs as primary factors in determining the location or relocation of trails; and </text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="ida033956033f34d24bcb69fb61176badc"><enum>(C)</enum><text>develop a trail outside of the Little River Wilderness Area in the area of the Tillman Road corridor (along Forest System road 101) to connect the Wolf Ridge Trail parking area to the Wild Oak National Recreation Trail, as generally depicted on the applicable map filed under section 5(a)(2).</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id4f4b5c9e99bc4d36970e3df81feaa805"><enum>(5)</enum><header>Implementation report</header><text>Not later than 2 years after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall submit to Congress a report that describes the implementation of the trail plan developed under paragraph (1), including the identification of the trail described in paragraph (4)(C) and any other priority trails identified for development. </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id2e4f8575ed2d4189be47e30fa736f8bc"><enum>(f)</enum><header>Roads</header><paragraph id="id8a84ba669b734f47aa885eaf33a541af"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>The establishment of the National Scenic Area shall not—</text><subparagraph id="id2A54CC4EDBCF419A93C2A9F52F21DD4A"><enum>(A)</enum><text>result in the closure of any National Forest System roads, as generally depicted on the map filed under section 5(a)(1); or</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id67EE5E3DBA2A4CE0A321971A16EE7560"><enum>(B)</enum><text>modify public access within the National Scenic Area.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id7BF442343BAB4629BAC87568A1D52F38"><enum>(2)</enum><header>No new roads</header><text>No new roads shall be constructed in the National Scenic Area after the date of enactment of this Act. </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id4dd902c3021b47dba1cbf84151682480"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Effect</header><text>Nothing in this section—</text><subparagraph id="id4fdac69991ed4afba7aaa64dcabd351d"><enum>(A)</enum><text>denies any owner of private land or an interest in private land that is located within the National Scenic Area the right to access the private land; </text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idf6b7d6bbe8724d7fa0471ca2b3841918"><enum>(B)</enum><text>alters the authority of the Secretary to open or close roads in the National Scenic Area in existence on the date of enactment of this Act in furtherance of the purposes of this Act; or</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id756bed609d504d6383fe0d388dd4aa16"><enum>(C)</enum><text>alters the authority of the State—</text><clause id="id1ECF5AF46D124A40B4CC64E25E5ABA13"><enum>(i)</enum><text>to maintain the access road to the crest of Shenandoah Mountain (Route 924); or </text></clause><clause id="id3FC2F8866BAF4933B3C25E84B03DFEFE"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>to realign the access road described in clause (i) if necessary for reasons of sound resource management or public safety. </text></clause></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id0be1a7f0953f4d94a81b296353e9dcff"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Parking areas</header><subparagraph id="id905DFF645BA248E98C878CF1B668B88B"><enum>(A)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Subject to subparagraph (B), the reconstruction, minor relocation, and construction of parking areas in the National Scenic Area is authorized in a manner consistent with the purposes of the National Scenic Area described in subsection (b).</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idEC6DDE48D7E5408B963C17497F888E50"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Limitation</header><text>Additional trailhead parking areas authorized in the National Scenic Area under subparagraph (A) may only be constructed along National Forest System roads. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="idbf73ea76f7dc4e96b2fa32c70f1a2485"><enum>(g)</enum><header>Motorized vehicles</header><text>Motorized travel shall only be allowed on roads within the portions of the National Scenic Area that are not Wilderness Areas, in a manner consistent with subsection (f). </text></subsection><subsection id="idb6feb15d7a794f87b018741ab22ce355"><enum>(h)</enum><header>Water</header><text>The Secretary shall administer the National Scenic Area in a manner that maintains and enhances water quality. </text></subsection><subsection id="idde47b8409f5241e78a3ad25d12c5538a"><enum>(i)</enum><header>Water impoundments</header><text>The establishment of the National Scenic Area shall not prohibit—</text><paragraph id="id6DC2C312CE8E469D91E35D812805444E"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the operation, maintenance, or improvement of, or access to, dams, reservoirs, or related infrastructure in existence on the date of enactment of this Act, as generally depicted on the map filed under section 5(a)(1); or</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idC82F5D447C8348AF8D67CA25558C7C3E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the establishment of new dams, reservoirs, or related infrastructure if necessary for municipal use. </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id3fe4c34bbd924b8cb0e0b54bb83efeab"><enum>(j)</enum><header>Timber harvest</header><paragraph id="id4dcd014872bd4f13b75eada7a30009c7"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Except as provided in paragraph (2), no harvesting of timber shall be allowed within the National Scenic Area. </text></paragraph><paragraph id="idd392f2bed1f1400b96a64f24a6871199"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Exceptions</header><subparagraph id="id7BE395AD404342439753B6D8342A0A18"><enum>(A)</enum><header>Necessary harvesting</header><text>The Secretary may authorize harvesting of timber in the National Scenic Area if the Secretary determines that the harvesting is necessary— </text><clause id="id7f9d1f2ba1ca4fb9ba9da7b378c78ce8"><enum>(i)</enum><text>to control fire;</text></clause><clause id="id7c2efb00d52847c1b8cbc827e28bd928"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>to provide for public safety or trail access;</text></clause><clause id="id0c5fbaef16c64881b8ee0a277b58b167"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>to construct or maintain overlooks and vistas; or</text></clause><clause id="id8bd6cbccd37547419d19e7296094dfa8"><enum>(iv)</enum><text>to control insect or disease outbreaks.</text></clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id3cb646540eea40c8b19ec62540983dee"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Firewood for personal use</header><text>Firewood may be harvested for personal use along roads within the National Scenic Area, subject to any conditions that the Secretary may require.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id5f8b9d9673614052840c0d1bc122ea1b"><enum>(k)</enum><header>Insect and disease outbreaks</header><paragraph id="id30ec90ce45214e6b8f5c5e0e247ae30a"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Subject to paragraph (2), the Secretary may carry out activities necessary to control insect and disease outbreaks in a manner consistent with the purposes of the National Scenic Area described in subsection (b)— </text><subparagraph id="idb3feeb8e26594239b5b52579385d80e8"><enum>(A)</enum><text>to maintain scenic quality;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idabc92473b5d343aba2c10ba10c79d170"><enum>(B)</enum><text>to reduce hazards to visitors; or </text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idc71a97e973d94762b25fe995e9588a4a"><enum>(C)</enum><text>to protect private land.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id6f41fe87fecc404299c5b0ec3671be93"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Limitations</header><text>For purposes of activities carried out under paragraph (1)—</text><subparagraph id="iddd0b6058f52c4120ad029d87709ca9e2"><enum>(A)</enum><text>native forest insect and disease outbreaks shall be controlled only—</text><clause id="id2CAFFFDFFDD648AF954524E80913710F"><enum>(i)</enum><text>to prevent unacceptable damage to resources on adjacent land; or </text></clause><clause id="id3F36B8AED16141C8976FDA1D8FBA9D11"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>to protect threatened, endangered, sensitive, or locally rare species, with biological control methods being favored; and </text></clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="ide444a85412d1476ca25dddf0ec769a29"><enum>(B)</enum><text>nonnative insects and diseases may be eradicated or suppressed only in order to prevent a loss of a special biological community. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="idfbbedee83cbf406f95e4e16df7d08d47"><enum>(l)</enum><header>Vegetation management</header><text>The Secretary may engage in vegetation manipulation practices within the National Scenic Area in a manner consistent with the purposes of the National Scenic Area described in subsection (b)— </text><paragraph id="id7fad74186afb44e48577d9c894d1b392"><enum>(1)</enum><text>to maintain wildlife clearings and scenic enhancements in existence on the date of enactment of this Act; or </text></paragraph><paragraph id="ide383eb151c614a269809b8106d0b8818"><enum>(2)</enum><text>to construct not more than 100 acres of additional wildlife clearings by—</text><subparagraph id="id0a82bd116bbd4de9838816f38bb6d705"><enum>(A)</enum><text>expanding wildlife clearings in existence on the date of enactment of this Act; or </text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id9acc9602c87d41108639fbd6f38254fa"><enum>(B)</enum><text>constructing new wildlife clearings of approximately 2 to 5 acres.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id8d3421f91aed486c953c7029dad34064"><enum>(m)</enum><header>Wildfire suppression</header><paragraph id="id0878f68ec32d4364bcd23ac9c672d66e"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Nothing in this section prohibits the Secretary, in cooperation with other Federal, State, and local agencies, as appropriate, from carrying out wildfire suppression activities within the National Scenic Area. </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id68503f39cb2144278933e9facac2f7f2"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Requirements</header><text>Wildfire suppression activities within the National Scenic Area shall be carried out— </text><subparagraph id="id19f99a2072544ff7bb7dd56b96dc061f"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in a manner consistent with the purposes of the National Scenic Area described in subsection (b); and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id30451e09f7bc40138342b72ba68b8d8b"><enum>(B)</enum><text>using such means as the Secretary determines to be appropriate.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id95a4826507344e0c8eb36c06e7cbfda6"><enum>(n)</enum><header>Prescribed fire</header><text>Nothing in this section prohibits the Secretary from conducting prescribed burns within the National Scenic Area in a manner consistent with the purposes of the National Scenic Area described in subsection (b).</text></subsection><subsection id="id9a058592147b4a60b661882510ca82b2"><enum>(o)</enum><header>Withdrawal</header><paragraph id="idceaefdc281bb42259591917da7b2193e"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Subject to valid existing rights, all Federal land within the National Scenic Area is withdrawn from— </text><subparagraph id="idf8f213e4e5a54f7d8acc020f3feb952d"><enum>(A)</enum><text>entry, appropriation, or disposal under the public land laws;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="ide93ab520fb954dbab6fcc3549ad5dd72"><enum>(B)</enum><text>location, entry, and patent under the mining laws;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id21b25cbae8444f208c3418e146e9241e"><enum>(C)</enum><text>operation of the mineral leasing and geothermal leasing laws;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id53c431456ac842eaa0649e9a41aafa80"><enum>(D)</enum><text>wind energy development; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id3430413ecb5c4faaa0592cbc4070c3c7"><enum>(E)</enum><text>designation of new utility corridors, utility rights-of-way, or communication sites.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id68c55a326eaa4ee883b5047614e39542"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Effect</header><text>The withdrawal under paragraph (1) shall not deny access to private interests within the National Scenic Area.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id18863e1398c848d8aeddcdfe71162061"><enum>(p)</enum><header>Management plan</header><paragraph id="idc71b4111a5c5439bb46a522bd94753a7"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>As soon as practicable after the date of the completion of the trail plan under subsection (e), but not later than 2 years after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall develop as an amendment to the land and resource management plan for the George Washington National Forest a management plan for the National Scenic Area that is consistent with this section. </text></paragraph><paragraph id="idc658b19903a34be8b6959e09b0a17803"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Effect</header><text>Nothing in this subsection requires the Secretary to revise the land and resource management plan for the George Washington National Forest under section 6 of the Forest and Rangeland Renewable Resources Planning Act of 1974 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/16/1604">16 U.S.C. 1604</external-xref>). </text></paragraph></subsection></section><section id="idf3c672770e774a869ea69cb97db493e4"><enum>4.</enum><header>Designation of wilderness areas</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1 of <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/100/326">Public Law 100–326</external-xref> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/16/1132">16 U.S.C. 1132</external-xref> note; 102 Stat. 584; 114 Stat. 2057; 123 Stat. 1002) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id0fbdbca5c5e4428f82f147a6a82cd5c6"><paragraph id="idb31367dc6c9044b3a7486fb235d30252"><enum>(21)</enum><header>Skidmore Fork Wilderness</header><text>Certain land in the George Washington National Forest comprising approximately 5,079 acres, as generally depicted on the applicable map filed under section 5(a)(2) of the <short-title>Shenandoah Mountain Act of 2022</short-title>, which shall be known as the <quote>Skidmore Fork Wilderness</quote>. </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id09511587fcfe4816944f323c041fa3dc"><enum>(22)</enum><header>Ramseys draft wilderness addition</header><text>Certain land in the George Washington National Forest comprising approximately 6,963 acres, as generally depicted on the applicable map filed under section 5(a)(2) of the <short-title>Shenandoah Mountain Act of 2022</short-title>, which shall be incorporated into the Ramseys Draft Wilderness designated by <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/98/586">Public Law 98–586</external-xref> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/16/1132">16 U.S.C. 1132</external-xref> note; 98 Stat. 3106).</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id92936fa819c44f3c95ff5a48851d89ba"><enum>(23)</enum><header>Lynn hollow wilderness</header><text>Certain land in the George Washington National Forest comprising approximately 3,574 acres, as generally depicted on the applicable map filed under section 5(a)(2) of the <short-title>Shenandoah Mountain Act of 2022</short-title>, which shall be known as the <quote>Lynn Hollow Wilderness</quote>.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id500b75060709498e92a6c5f1bbb86465"><enum>(24)</enum><header>Little river wilderness</header><text>Certain land in the George Washington National Forest comprising approximately 12,461 acres, as generally depicted on the applicable map filed under section 5(a)(2) of the <short-title>Shenandoah Mountain Act of 2022</short-title>, which shall be known as the <quote>Little River Wilderness</quote>.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idacd921fb5d044381921ebb3b8910aefa"><enum>(25)</enum><header>Beech lick knob wilderness</header><text>Certain land in the George Washington National Forest comprising approximately 5,764 acres, as generally depicted on the applicable map filed under section 5(a)(2) of the <short-title>Shenandoah Mountain Act of 2022</short-title>, which shall be known as the <quote>Beech Lick Knob Wilderness</quote>.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section><section id="idd6374b9caad849d7b7b25c3ea4cb6096"><enum>5.</enum><header>Maps and boundary descriptions</header><subsection id="id2ed9e6106d8a489bb9dac3e40c862a7a"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Filing</header><text>As soon as practicable after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall file with the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry of the Senate and the Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on Agriculture of the House of Representatives maps and boundary descriptions of— </text><paragraph id="id0EC00DA84A3E46F9AD2C2CF01623EFB1"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the National Scenic Area; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idF32AAF26D0C142248A76BF45901C3BAA"><enum>(2)</enum><text>each of the Wilderness Areas.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="idc1870daf4cdb4f028ea56c15c38c5139"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Force and effect</header><text>The maps and boundary descriptions filed under subsection (a) shall have the same force and effect as if included in this Act, except that the Secretary may correct clerical and typographical errors in the maps and boundary descriptions. </text></subsection><subsection id="id34DE779EE1234205B659F215B469A5FF"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Maps control</header><text>In the case of any discrepancy between the acreage of the National Scenic Area or a Wilderness Area and the applicable map filed under subsection (a), the applicable map filed under that subsection shall control. </text></subsection><subsection id="iddee0dc2664504533b43ec5d71c887807"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Availability</header><text>The maps and boundary descriptions filed under subsection (a) shall be on file and available for public inspection in the office of the Chief of the Forest Service. </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
