<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 3831</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20220314">March 14, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S397">Mr. Braun</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S411">Mr. Marshall</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSHR00">Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To require the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to conduct a study relating to COVID–19 immunity resulting from a prior infection, vaccination, or both, and the COVID–19 pandemic. </official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Apply the Science Act 2.0</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="id7C6BF655B4414E22B1D02A0D7620EAD2"><enum>2.</enum><header>National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine study on natural immunity in relation to the COVID–19 pandemic</header><subsection id="id6ebef1a129cc41f69eaeeadd75b92e1e"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Not later than 45 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Health and Human Services shall seek to enter into a contract with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (referred to in this section as the <quote>National Academies</quote>) to conduct a study related to the current scientific evidence on the durability of immunity to COVID–19.</text></subsection><subsection id="id203ffa39f8fa4dc0bc13468172175983"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Inclusions</header><text>The study pursuant to the contract under subsection (a) shall include—</text><paragraph id="idf13f9c50952240148b60513a857e8445"><enum>(1)</enum><text>an assessment of scientific evidence related to the durability of immunity resulting from SARS–CoV–2 infection, COVID–19 vaccination, or both, including any differences between population groups;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id4c62b24cc22d4fbeb2a992db111375b2"><enum>(2)</enum><text>an assessment of the extent to which the Federal Government makes publicly available the scientific evidence used by relevant Federal departments and agencies to inform public health recommendations related to immunity resulting from SARS–CoV–2 infection and COVID–19 vaccination; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id243236571f194fa0a55f842eccb65f7f"><enum>(3)</enum><text>a summary of scientific studies and evidence related to SARS–CoV–2 infection-acquired immunity from a sample of other countries or multilateral organizations.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id2746ef0d0aed41429a13b0c94f6aa56c"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Report</header><text>Not later than 18 months after the date of enactment of this Act, the National Academies shall submit to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions of the Senate and the Committee on Energy and Commerce of the House of Representatives a report on the study pursuant to subsection (a).</text></subsection><subsection id="id62983b57562d47f4b81e6dd643e8b1fa"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Authorization of appropriation</header><text>There is authorized to be appropriated such sums as may be necessary for fiscal year 2023 to carry out this section. </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
