<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 3692</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20220217">February 17, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S408">Mr. Hickenlooper</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S347">Mr. Moran</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S314">Mr. Tester</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S372">Mrs. Capito</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSCM00">Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To direct the Federal Communications Commission to evaluate and consider the impact of the telecommunications network equipment supply chain on the deployment of universal service, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="S1"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Network Equipment Transparency Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>NET Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="id0F9FEF6E68764E4885A6A15ED4B3CC20"><enum>2.</enum><header>Telecommunications supply chain consideration</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline"> Section 706 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/47/1302">47 U.S.C. 1302</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph id="id80219E14793F4D20834B15962E935501"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating subsection (d) as subsection (e); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id19E3D59B11524F5F848DB254FA167655"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting after subsection (c) the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id45a05103e9284351bf94cde5b4b4e045"><subsection id="iddcfc01d5332444328c8064512fcaacf4"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Status of telecommunications supply chain</header><text>As part of the inquiry required by subsection (b), the Commission shall, to the extent that data is available, determine whether a lack of network equipment significantly impacted the deployment of advanced telecommunications capability during the applicable year.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
