<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><calendar>Calendar No. 233</calendar><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 3453</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date>January 10, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S384">Mr. Tillis</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S374">Mr. Cotton</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S287">Mr. Cornyn</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read the first time</action-desc></action><action><action-date>January 18, 2022</action-date><action-desc>Read the second time and placed on the calendar</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To prohibit the payment of certain legal settlements to individuals who unlawfully entered the United States.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="id1559A1A0A507439391CC17D5DE07A8D5"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protect American Taxpayer Dollars from Illegal Immigration Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="idC5F1BEFE20934E50B349CF6F3C661720"><enum>2.</enum><header>Limitation on legal settlements for individuals who unlawfully entered the United States</header><subsection id="id7887E623718641F0B15B3F5E4A9ABC1A"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no Federal funds, including amounts deposited into the Judgment Fund established under section 1304 of title 31, United States Code, may be expended for any legal settlement to any individual who violated section 275(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1325">8 U.S.C. 1325(a)</external-xref>) if the claims giving rise to such settlement are based on the lawful detention of such individual as part of a family unit after entry at a port of entry or between ports of entry along the southern border of the United States after January 20, 2017.</text></subsection><subsection id="id90232E36F7554BF9A03B33FAB03F369E"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">This section shall take effect on the date that is 1 day after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section></legis-body><endorsement><action-date>January 18, 2022</action-date><action-desc>Read the second time and placed on the calendar</action-desc></endorsement></bill>
