<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 3334</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20211208">December 8, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S153">Mr. Grassley</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S364">Mr. Murphy</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSEG00">Committee on Energy and Natural Resources</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To extend the authority for the establishment of a commemorative work to honor enslaved and free black persons who served in the American Revolution, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H7174EC2AD01F4300B5C6E58BFB5BC811"><section section-type="section-one" id="HD8B08961F1EF43D0A33C4B1C2468A2D1"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>National Liberty Memorial Preservation Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H5AE14BEFB2AC4FADA77C1DF4DA353012"><enum>2.</enum><header>Finding</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Congress finds that the period preceding the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States on July 4, 1776, offers the best conditions in 10 generations to honor and preserve the contributions of enslaved and free black soldiers and civilians to independence by the triumph of a permanent National Liberty Memorial representing deeds that, on 2 previous occasions, Congress declared to be of <quote>preeminent historical and lasting significance to the nation</quote>.</text></section><section id="HFE78F75EF6674388A09A4B4E05379605"><enum>3.</enum><header>Extension of authority for establishment of commemorative work</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Notwithstanding section 8903(e) of title 40, United States Code, the authority provided by section 2860 of the Military Construction Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/40/8903">40 U.S.C. 8903</external-xref> note; <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/112/239">Public Law 112–239</external-xref>) shall continue to apply through September 30, 2027.</text></section></legis-body></bill>
