which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSEG00">Committee on Energy and Natural Resources</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To require the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture to develop long-distance bike trails on Federal land, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Biking on Long-Distance Trails Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="id82AF83C8B1524CEC9C2B2A6D19E449B7"><enum>2.</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">In this Act:</text><paragraph id="idf6c5115fab2148c5ac8bd7aa1971507d"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Federal land</header><text>The term <term>Federal land</term> means—</text><subparagraph id="id23c1c3fa58d0407e837cea8d6d5123f3"><enum>(A)</enum><text>land under the jurisdiction of the Secretary; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id7045309cb44c483aa2b6b6524456c63b" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(B)</enum><text>National Forest System land. </text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id505caace5d2940ccacd2b0438082fccb"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Long-distance bike trail</header><text>The term <term>long-distance bike trail</term> means a continuous route, consisting of 1 or more trails, that—</text><subparagraph id="idc8bf5dd848a94dbeae18e08898fcaf1d"><enum>(A)</enum><text>is not less than 80 miles in length on Federal land;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id00c91aba3ecf482daadd66e12786bc3c"><enum>(B)</enum><text>to the maximum extent practicable, makes use of existing trails and roads; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id7f717a6a2557481882d708f7b3b2fb01" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(C)</enum><text>may be used for mountain biking, road biking, touring, or gravel biking. </text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id4790727e0ab84a0b8c2df6737ef3c04f" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Secretary</header><text>The term <term>Secretary</term> means the Secretary of the Interior. </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id1d7c3d493a4246b6a034269465d41ca4"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Secretary concerned</header><text>The term <term>Secretary concerned</term> means—</text><subparagraph id="id43ea2a39856a4dbb8c399d1772da94d8"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the Secretary, with respect to land under the jurisdiction of the Secretary; or</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id98e0b4146db84e40955bc27a9c8a4f95" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the Secretary of Agriculture, with respect to National Forest System land. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></section><section id="id21b917eeac5640448f66813fe263ade4"><enum>3.</enum><header>Long-distance bike trails on federal land</header><subsection id="id1d07a6094976484f9b4f2ed166492192"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Identification of long-Distance trails</header><text>The Secretaries concerned shall—</text><paragraph id="ida2c2fcd86597434f82dedfd946d728a6"><enum>(1)</enum><text>identify not fewer than 10 long-distance bike trails, consistent with management requirements for the Federal land identified that make use of trails and roads in existence on the date of enactment of this Act; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id61e7ef10f4584d8cb4f92a555dfcb818"><enum>(2)</enum><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="idD3255217004D49099CD92714937B1A6A"><enum>(A)</enum><text>identify not fewer than 10 areas in which there is an opportunity to develop or complete long-distance bike trails, consistent with the management requirements for the Federal land identified; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph indent="up1" id="id29DBC39A59494F2EAD211747D5888412"><enum>(B)</enum><text>coordinate with stakeholders on the feasibility of, and identifying any resources necessary for, completing the development of the trails identified under subparagraph (A).</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id56d27f29589a4126a978b130561740eb"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Maps, signage, and promotional materials</header><text>For any long-distance bike trail identified under subsection (a), the Secretary concerned may publish and distribute maps, install signage, and issue promotional materials.</text></subsection><subsection id="idc5bf8149ea3c465f9c9fbaed8c3df526"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Report</header><text>Not later than 2 years after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretaries concerned, in partnership with interested organizations, shall prepare and publish a report that lists the trails identified under subsection (a). </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
