which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSVA00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend title 38, United States Code, to provide for the inclusion of certain emblems on headstones and markers furnished for veterans by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="idEE3847F990EB40EBA6B3E523E5EEC3AD"><enum>1.</enum><header>Inclusion of certain emblems on headstones and markers furnished by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs</header><subsection id="idF8E5B737F5374ACCAD8F6EB5E41E9513"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Section 2306 of title 38, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection: </text><quoted-block style="USC" id="idD9D69667ABA1448484BE758E74E72DDA" act-name=""><subsection id="idE83CF8DB0F4C4EF5B4CF89405E803DB1"><enum>(l)</enum><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="id779A0BFCC7B34544A7A8049C881102EF"><enum>(1)</enum><text>A headstone or marker furnished for a veteran under subsection (a), (b), or (d) may include—</text><subparagraph id="id604297DB3DD04E6E9249211872CA4931" indent="up1"><enum>(A)</enum><text>no emblem; </text></subparagraph><subparagraph indent="up1" id="id9722D02681B3445C81C3BABBDDAED55F"><enum>(B)</enum><text>an emblem of belief; or</text></subparagraph><subparagraph indent="up1" id="id0CA3EE1EC5ED4772A30E5DD62A4EDE07"><enum>(C)</enum><text>an emblem from among a list of emblems that the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretary, shall establish.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph indent="up1" id="idD53FB274215B400391103B6B95AF3338"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The list established under paragraph (1)(C) shall include the following: </text><subparagraph id="id61D5C55E04C2479D89DE4EBDE41BB19E"><enum>(A)</enum><text>An emblem with respect to—</text><clause id="id5D6BE5DB9AEC4B03926A135E671C5182"><enum>(i)</enum><text>each unit at the level of separate brigade or higher in the Army and each equivalent unit in the Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard; and </text></clause><clause id="idE9336D63B3BB4A1AA4864F144B421749"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>each skill or combat badge or tab earned by a member of the Armed Forces. </text></clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id87E8773E224C416F94FE2A0FBE961C63"><enum>(B)</enum><text>One or more emblems of the commissioned Regular Corps of the Public Health Service.</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id18B1F24788A7414EBA22A3D6EABF489B"><enum>(C)</enum><text>One or more emblems of the commissioned officer corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. </text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idD255B51F9F9340098A94B30C2A1A5639"><enum>(D)</enum><text>Such other emblems as the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretary, considers appropriate and practical, such as the Marine Corps emblem or Army Infantry insignia. </text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="idEE3F74D525C24E5E8987A3DC17201A66" indent="up1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>The Secretary of Defense shall provide the Secretary with a digitized representation of each emblem included in the list established under paragraph (1)(C).</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>. </after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection><subsection id="idCA8FB8AA003242F9B6962DF283BDA82D"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Establishment of list of approved emblems</header><text>Not later than June 1, 2022, the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, shall establish the list of approved emblems required by paragraph (1)(C) of subsection (l) of such section 2306, as added by subsection (a), in accordance with such subsection (l). </text></subsection><subsection commented="no" id="id9B2B789954D843439745FB0C4C44DDCD"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Availability of approved emblems</header><text>Not later than October 1, 2022, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall make the emblems on the list of approved emblems required by subsection (l)(1)(C) of such section 2306, as added by subsection (a), available for inclusion on headstones and markers. </text></subsection><subsection commented="no" id="id8EF9BA8F40A143C9B6880B8698D36CC1"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Applicability</header><text>The amendment made by subsection (a) shall apply with respect to headstones and markers furnished by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs after the date of the enactment of this Act. </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
