<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 3178</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20211104">November 4, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S287">Mr. Cornyn</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S363">Mr. King</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSFR00">Committee on Foreign Relations</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To express the sense of Congress on interoperability with Taiwan.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="id56F43EED6A8443F1B2A153A022B17CCF" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Sense of Congress on interoperability with Taiwan</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">It is the sense of Congress that, consistent with the Taiwan Relations Act (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/96/8">Public Law 96–8</external-xref>; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/22/3301">22 U.S.C. 3301 et seq.</external-xref>) and the Six Assurances, the United States should seek to support the goals of—</text><paragraph id="idDEB2850A415248A5BA2E91A3B50E3407"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">improving asymmetric defense capabilities of Taiwan; </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id1A6FAA14F66E4A4A95309CA5EED91AD2"><enum>(2)</enum><text>bolstering deterrence to preserve peace, security, and stability across the Taiwan Strait; and </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id092BC88777DD452488A4EEDF0105B78A"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">deepening interoperability with Taiwan in defense capabilities, including in—</text><subparagraph id="id285602F672E94DDB9B10D43E607C75C6"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">maritime and air domain awareness; and </text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id62D536C59B864BAE821061E339743F4C"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">integrated air and missile defense systems. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
