<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 2919</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210930">September 30, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S359">Mr. Heinrich</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S409">Mr. Luján</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S413">Mr. Padilla</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S394">Ms. Smith</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S366">Ms. Warren</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S362">Mr. Kaine</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To designate Indigenous Peoples’ Day as a legal public holiday and replace the term <quote>Columbus Day</quote> with the term <quote>Indigenous Peoples’ Day</quote>, and for other purposes. </official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="S1"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Indigenous Peoples' Day Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="id8548fa26a6ba478a91411aa860c72c18"><enum>2.</enum><header>Indigenous Peoples' day as a legal public holiday</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 6103(a) of title 5, United States Code, is amended by striking the item relating to Columbus Day and inserting the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" id="id759139AE2FD24607A0C2F79F3A74247C" act-name=""><paragraph id="id8DCC6888C20C45CAB6E107A9B87D768A"><enum/><text>Indigenous Peoples' Day, the second Monday in October.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="H25C811305D74486187125CEF11189F4C"><enum>3.</enum><header>Term <quote>Columbus Day</quote> replaced</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Any reference to <quote>Columbus Day</quote> in any law, rule, regulation, or other official paper in effect as of the date of the enactment of this Act shall be deemed to be a reference to <quote>Indigenous Peoples' Day</quote>. </text></section></legis-body></bill>
