<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><calendar>Calendar No. 290</calendar><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>2d Session</session><legis-num>S. 2794</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210922" legis-day="20210921">September 22 (legislative day, September 21), 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S412">Mr. Tuberville</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S398">Mr. Cramer</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S404">Mr. Scott of Florida</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S397">Mr. Braun</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S317">Mr. Barrasso</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S410">Ms. Lummis</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S318">Mr. Wicker</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S287">Mr. Cornyn</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S381">Mr. Rounds</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSVA00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><action stage="Reported-in-Senate"><action-date>March 1, 2022</action-date><action-desc>Reported by <sponsor name-id="S314">Mr. Tester</sponsor>, without amendment</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend title 38, United States Code, to increase automatic maximum coverage under the Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance program and the Veterans’ Group Life Insurance program, and for other purposes. </official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="HA6BE9C2F33A34ABE99BC40E6E0D967EF"><section section-type="section-one" id="H213AFB83B4BD4781ADF3F4A4159034D0"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Supporting Families of the Fallen Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H117040E86BA34A56AB292055E6A49FFD"><enum>2.</enum><header>Increase in automatic maximum coverage under Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance and Veterans' Group Life Insurance</header><subsection id="H47F5C66834D94745BEAA5C2AD5116103"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1967(a)(3)(A)(i) of title 38, United States Code, is amended by striking <quote>$400,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$500,000</quote>.</text></subsection><subsection id="HF3FB1F4F4ABE4256B71FEC6D899549CE"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendment made by subsection (a) shall take effect on the later of—</text><paragraph id="H4504C60BFE814BD8A1034C87E8913CF4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the date that is 60 days after the date of the enactment of this Act; or</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HEF9337D673C8477C80FC7A7AFDBF7435"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the date on which the Secretary of Veterans Affairs determines that— </text><subparagraph id="H8F2CF5B3A1224088BFFB7BB9B40BF072"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the amount for which a member will be insured pursuant to the amendment made by subsection (a) and the premiums for such amount are administratively and actuarially sound for the Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance program under subchapter III of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/38/19">chapter 19</external-xref> of title 38, United States Code, and the Veterans' Group Life Insurance program under section 1977 of such title; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H03D73EB4991247B7AEA1C52ECD51B709"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the increase in such amount carried out pursuant to the amendment will not result in such programs operating at a loss.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body><endorsement><action-date>March 1, 2022</action-date><action-desc>Reported without amendment</action-desc></endorsement></bill>
