<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 2693</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210810">August 10, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S413">Mr. Padilla</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S221">Mrs. Feinstein</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSEG00">Committee on Energy and Natural Resources</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Reclamation Projects Authorization and Adjustment Act of 1992 to authorize additional projects related to the Salton Sea, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H44B3F44EE58B48F3A038E4454D9D63B9"><section section-type="section-one" id="H9EA688F9E207483498F6A8DC4E0BAF70"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Salton Sea Projects Improvements Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H4B72A8FE80E3463B8ECCE30FD68F372A"><enum>2.</enum><header>Research Project</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1101 of the Reclamation Projects Authorization and Adjustment Act of 1992 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/102/575">Public Law 102–575</external-xref>; 106 Stat. 4661) is amended—</text><paragraph id="HE9131E4D28AC482AB261B2E2CFB409B7"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating subsections (b) through (d) as subsections (c) through (e), respectively;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H8DB1F02A1FD84F769265C4A64A628C3B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after subsection (a) the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H70BD67DB720145A19918D93C91E2AE87"><subsection commented="no" id="HEE60C89544CD4C958CAB30048BAE8F52"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Additional project authorities</header><paragraph commented="no" id="HA6202B51FDE14022A945996B5EE6A215"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of the Interior, acting through the Commissioner of Reclamation, may provide grants and enter into contracts and cooperative agreements to carry out projects located in the area of the Salton Sea in southern California to improve air quality, fish and wildlife habitat, recreational opportunities, and water quality, in partnership with—</text><subparagraph commented="no" id="H24B1CF8C603C4D9FBB860047EEEF07B4"><enum>(A)</enum><text>State, Tribal, and local governments; </text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" id="H0E29D26706BA41378F42111244C16B86"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">water districts; </text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" id="H68EAB152E40C43A298D526D918BBB3FD"><enum>(C)</enum><text>joint powers authorities, including the Salton Sea Authority;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H8AC05146F77A4DA5BD039E79340420AC"><enum>(D)</enum><text>nonprofit organizations; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H6B83B615509249B7970A896831B00C82"><enum>(E)</enum><text>institutions of higher education. </text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" id="H3527139A58FE45D185B5602F74D5D90E"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Included activities</header><text>The projects described in paragraph (1) may include—</text><subparagraph commented="no" id="H2FE2100487FC4130967F558A177ED072"><enum>(A)</enum><text>construction, operation, maintenance, permitting, and design activities required for the projects; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" id="HC98DA00C77894BF0ACBC101773F6237C"><enum>(B)</enum><text>dust suppression projects.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph><paragraph id="H37B6902A63D441B8A4D6BD7FB7EDC4A9"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in subsection (e) (as so redesignated), by striking <quote>$10,000,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$250,000,000</quote>. </text></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
