<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 2260</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210624">June 24, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S399">Mr. Hawley</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To increase the maximum penalties for assaulting Federal officers by 50 percent.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="id684651DD96D74219A3B92D008E4E0250" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Protecting law enforcement officers in the line of duty</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/18/7">Chapter 7</external-xref> of title 18, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="idDAE43203590C4B80BD1D3B0DC6B33F0B"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in section 111(b), by striking <quote>20 years</quote> and inserting <quote>30 years</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idB358230C1B1B49D985178CB54DC1061F"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in section 115(b)(1)(B)—</text><subparagraph id="id51A3D88B8DAA4065B9CB2B18F06F2FA3"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in clause (i), by striking <quote>1 year</quote> and inserting <quote>18 months</quote>;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id6BD568AB76874D24AD1151EF9D6756D7"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in clause (ii), by striking <quote>10 years</quote> and inserting <quote>15 years</quote>;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="idAA05B1E0DDB34F5DB1F029E5921302EA"><enum>(C)</enum><text>in clause (iii), by striking <quote>20 years</quote> and inserting <quote>30 years</quote>; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id2B368205DC974F80A8101373F5FBE328"><enum>(D)</enum><text>in clause (iv), by striking <quote>30 years</quote> and inserting <quote>45 years</quote>.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
