<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 2216</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210624">June 24, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S389">Mr. Kennedy</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S396">Mrs. Blackburn</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To require the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of State to develop a plan for the relocation and admission to the United States of certain citizens of Afghanistan, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Save Our Afghan Allies Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="idB9342B3AD9E141E780589DAC5A2ABE95"><enum>2.</enum><header>Department of Defense plan for relocation and admission to the United States of certain citizens of Afghanistan</header><subsection id="id58043DA8DA694F399AEF9CFC4EF6D168"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Plan required</header><paragraph id="id4FAD33B149BF4274AB3C6043CE43D668"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>The Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretary of State, shall develop a plan for the relocation and admission to the United States pursuant to special immigrant visas of citizens of Afghanistan who are aliens described in section 602(b)(2) of the Afghan Allies Protection Act of 2009 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/111/8">Public Law 111–8</external-xref>; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/8/1101">8 U.S.C. 1101</external-xref> note). </text></paragraph><paragraph id="id67EED5203B7642D08CF6177EF6A0FE13"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Element</header><text>The plan required by paragraph (1) shall provide for the relocation and admission of such citizens of Afghanistan before the date on which the withdrawal of the United States Armed Forces from Afghanistan is completed.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="idFE9EEC9452254B47816D8C36FE4D3BB8" commented="no"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Submittal to Congress</header><text>Not later than 30 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the appropriate committees of Congress the plan developed under subsection (a)(1).</text></subsection><subsection id="id506C0D22DDB5465786B6334A15DF78E0"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Appropriate committees of Congress defined</header><text>In this section, the term <term>appropriate committees of Congress</term> means—</text><paragraph id="H1FBCF8B6F7AB4010B1258B82BA8988D1" commented="no"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Foreign Relations, and the Committee on the Judiciary of the Senate; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HD6A02053279D4229B8A0AA4DC70404FA" commented="no"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the Committee on Armed Services, the Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
