<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 2215</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210624">June 24, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S284">Ms. Stabenow</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="S266">Mr. Crapo</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S221">Mrs. Feinstein</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S252">Ms. Collins</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S057">Mr. Leahy</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S323">Mr. Risch</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S402">Ms. Rosen</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S411">Mr. Marshall</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S311">Ms. Klobuchar</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S347">Mr. Moran</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSFI00">Committee on Finance</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide for an exclusion for assistance provided to participants in certain veterinary student loan repayment or forgiveness programs.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="idD2E06DC3A8BA4FF0BA24F6B3C45CF38A"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program Enhancement Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="id5432D889346C40899B283AA3BE34453A"><enum>2.</enum><header>Exclusion for assistance provided to participants in certain veterinary student loan repayment or forgiveness programs</header><subsection id="id81324648B73B4E0BBD604D7B28144BC9"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Paragraph (4) of <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/108">section 108(f)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended—</text><paragraph id="id62152176FD7C4FDE817BCF0B75AE8EAD"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>or</quote> after <quote>such Act,</quote>,</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id48A68316FC0345829CF0258783F81649"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>, under section 1415A of the National Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching Policy Act of 1977 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/7/3151a">7 U.S.C. 3151a</external-xref>), or under any other State loan repayment or loan forgiveness program that is intended to provide for increased access to veterinary services in such State.</quote>, and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id22D0FAC842F749CF943392198E7E7C23"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by striking <quote><header-in-text level="paragraph" style="OLC">state</header-in-text></quote> in the heading and inserting <quote><header-in-text level="paragraph" style="OLC">other</header-in-text></quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id01BB3E6C919D4579A8F25CD8E820395B"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to amounts received by an individual in taxable years beginning after December 31, 2021.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
