<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 2114</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210617">June 17, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S406">Mr. Kelly</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S252">Ms. Collins</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSHR00">Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To expand the definition of qualified persons for purposes of the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act to include health professional students.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Student Assisted Vaccination Effort Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>SAVE Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="id5DB958C744EA41E9B355ABEFD217DA65"><enum>2.</enum><header>Qualified persons</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 319F–3(i)(8) of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 247d–6d(i)(8)) is amended—</text><paragraph id="idAEF78D2A9DD842838BEEAE3ED3DFC052"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A), by striking <quote>; or</quote> and inserting a semicolon;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idFF1C23140347415C8868E5F8A2064282"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by redesignating subparagraph (B) as subparagraph (C); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id53EF6300E60547C6BB8F01333A49CD9B"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by inserting after subparagraph (A) the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id5AF877A3E93E46DA8FB43564DCACFF8C"><subparagraph id="idE3CCC029E9FF452B99A5F1F00F0320E1"><enum>(B)</enum><text>a medical, nursing, pharmacy, pharmacy intern, midwife, paramedic, advanced or intermediate emergency medical technician, physician assistant, respiratory therapy, dental, podiatry, optometry or veterinary student with—</text><clause id="id4FEA20E966CC41BB886A1B03969AC890"><enum>(i)</enum><text>appropriate training in administering vaccines, as determined by the student's school or training program; and</text></clause><clause id="id0CC6CA0A0DE64CDFA8AAFE4A40B891FE"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>supervision by an individual described in subparagraph (A); or</text></clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
