<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 2047</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210614">June 14, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S252">Ms. Collins</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="S341">Mr. Blumenthal</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S221">Mrs. Feinstein</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S388">Ms. Hassan</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S324">Mrs. Shaheen</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S331">Mrs. Gillibrand</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S363">Mr. King</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSHR00">Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To ban the use of intentionally added perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances in cosmetics.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>No PFAS in Cosmetics Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="idC83E5340A2444DB2B9445ACD6DE6F7A4"><enum>2.</enum><header>Ban on perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances</header><subsection id="id688631FD16574443A8E074F00471CE68"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Directed rulemaking</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 270 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Health and Human Services (referred to in this section as the <quote>Secretary</quote>) shall issue a proposed rule to ban the use of intentionally added perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substances in cosmetics. Not later than 90 days after issuing the proposed rule, the Secretary shall finalize such rule.</text></subsection><subsection id="id0369AD5AFD9B4FDC93B64820AF9161A9"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definition</header><text>In this section, the term <term>per­fluo­ro­al­kyl or polyfluoroalkyl substance</term> means a per­fluo­ro­al­kyl or polyfluoroalkyl substance that is man-made and has at least 1 fully fluorinated carbon atom.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
