<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 1994</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210609">June 9, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S346">Mr. Lee</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSCM00">Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To enable passenger vessels that were not built in the United States to receive coastwise endorsement, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protecting Jobs in American Ports Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="idCC71DB90EF4C406A97332404C1B7E2B0"><enum>2.</enum><header>Coastwise endorsement for passenger vessels</header><subsection id="id261F49B64D9A46F3B6FF71AA26A4BC5F"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Section 12112(a)(2)(B) of title 46, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="id160290B16425434C9C0EE7EA4594FFB0"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in clause (ii), by striking <quote>; or</quote> and inserting a semicolon;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id4014393CD1B3426590896CCCF567A897"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in clause (iii), by striking <quote>; and</quote> and inserting <quote>; or</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idECA288F4A02B4F158C6E80F217398AA1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id98946C3281EF4BA5A5B2540CE510EA43"><clause id="idA7B13F40E68D45059183516388745701"><enum>(iv)</enum><text>is a vessel that transports passengers between ports or places in the United States to which the coastwise laws apply, either directly or via a foreign port; and</text></clause><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id42C75B297F7548548014A10E3709B348" commented="no"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming amendment</header><text>Section 12121 of title 46, United States Code, is repealed.</text></subsection><subsection id="idD5930ED877694765A92122EAF7E01520"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Rule of construction</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Nothing in the amendments made by this section shall be construed to exempt a vessel that transports passengers between ports or places in the United States to which the coastwise laws apply, either directly or via a foreign port, from any applicable law of the United States except as explicitly provided in such amendments. </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
