 title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Genetically Engineered Salmon Labeling Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="id4A354D142146461BAF88EC446EF45565"><enum>2.</enum><header>Purposes</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">It is the purpose of this Act to ensure that consumers in the United States can make informed decisions when purchasing salmon.</text></section><section id="idFF2FE02733A64958AAF1FA725BD52768"><enum>3.</enum><header>Market name for genetically engineered salmon</header><subsection id="id9126B0E3C1BC4BC6A31A2F34127EAEFC"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In General</header><text>Notwithstanding subtitle E of title II of the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/7/1639">7 U.S.C. 1639 et seq.</external-xref>), or any other provision of law, for purposes of applying the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/21/301">21 U.S.C. 301 et seq.</external-xref>), the acceptable market name of any salmon that is genetically engineered shall include the words “Genetically Engineered” or <quote>GE</quote> prior to the existing acceptable market name.</text></subsection><subsection id="id0AD0AF43A67441DCBA5B3FF6EFE47ABC"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definition</header><text>For purposes of this section, salmon is genetically engineered if it has been modified by recombinant DNA (rDNA) techniques, including the entire lineage of salmon that contain the rDNA modification.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
