<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 1890</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210527">May 27, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S311">Ms. Klobuchar</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S375">Mr. Daines</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSCM00">Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To require the Federal Trade Commission to conduct a study on scams that target travelers during the COVID–19 pandemic, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Protecting Consumers from Travel Fraud Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="idC18A465717B4487EB20AEB45190E7624"><enum>2.</enum><header>FTC study on travel fraud</header><subsection id="idF5BAF90A3F024D3998C1BA9FD566DEE0"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Study</header><text>The Federal Trade Commission (in this section referred to as the <quote>Commission</quote>) shall conduct a study, using the Commission's authority under section 6 of the Federal Trade Commission Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/46">15 U.S.C. 46</external-xref>), regarding scams that target travelers during the COVID–19 pandemic.</text></subsection><subsection id="idB75EE15DFC22427E871F1497BD45B52D"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Report</header><text>Not later than 45 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Commission shall submit to Congress a report containing the results of the study conducted under subsection (a), together with recommendations for such legislation and administrative action to prevent and deter scams that target consumers, including online travel booking scams, as the Commission determines appropriate.</text></subsection><subsection id="idB30E5D5440DA40E1BE745E4231FED1A5"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Consumer protection information</header><text>Not later than 30 days after the date of the submission of the report under subsection (b), the Commission shall update the website of the Commission to include information for consumers on avoiding scams that target travelers, including scams that target travelers during the COVID–pandemic identified in the study conducted under subsection (a).</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
