<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 179</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210202">February 2, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S354">Ms. Baldwin</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S364">Mr. Murphy</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSHR00">Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To authorize the appropriation of an additional $10,000,000,000 to secure critical materials and supplies to combat the COVID–19 pandemic.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations to secure critical materials and supplies to combat COVID–19 pandemic</header><subsection id="idEEC01E7A2C0849A8B65046B23211EC95"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>There are authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary of Health and Human Services for fiscal year 2021 $10,000,000,000 to secure critical materials and supplies to combat the coronavirus disease 2019 (commonly referred to as <quote>COVID–19</quote>) pandemic, including through efforts to expand domestic capacity to manufacture such supplies through the use of authorities available under the Defense Production Act of 1950 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/50/4501">50 U.S.C. 4501</external-xref> et seq.).</text></subsection><subsection id="id4F643E8731EA40AAB38F9CE5D7A694E0"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Coordination of use of funds</header><text>In obligating and expending amounts authorized to be appropriated by subsection (a), the Secretary of Health and Human Services shall coordinate with the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security.</text></subsection><subsection id="id4C00375DE4B2467D8F3C7598CC157B3B"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Supplement not supplant</header><text>Amounts authorized to be appropriated by subsection (a) shall supplement and not supplant other amounts authorized to be appropriated to secure critical materials and supplies to combat the COVID–19 pandemic.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
