<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 1393</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210427">April 27, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S311">Ms. Klobuchar</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S266">Mr. Crapo</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSVA00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to carry out training for employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs relating to exposure of veterans to toxic substances.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Toxic Exposure Training Act of 2021</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="idF5753AC2B00A42C181F0A2B420CE6A48"><enum>2.</enum><header>Training for personnel of the Department of Veterans Affairs with respect to exposure of veterans to toxic substances</header><subsection id="id40B46E36343C474788CE57C994B20060"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Health care personnel</header><text>The Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall provide to health care personnel of the Department of Veterans Affairs education and training to identify, treat, and assess the impact on veterans of illnesses related to exposure to toxic substances and inform such personnel of how to ask for additional information from veterans regarding exposure to different toxicants.</text></subsection><subsection id="idab236cc2023641a28809b70c599d5a7c"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Benefits personnel</header><paragraph id="idD29B93FA49CE452B968353F8E565FCF1"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>The Secretary shall establish a training program for processors of claims under the laws administered by the Secretary who review claims for disability benefits relating to service-connected disabilities based on exposure to toxic substances. </text></paragraph><paragraph id="idA7530BDF9041465A88D4D52E36A933A1"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Annual training</header><text>Training provided to processors under paragraph (1) shall be provided not less frequently than annually. </text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
