<congress display="yes">117th CONGRESS</congress><session display="yes">1st Session</session><legis-num display="yes">S. 1340</legis-num><current-chamber display="no">IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><legis-type display="yes">AN ACT</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend title 28, United States Code, to redefine the eastern and middle judicial districts of North Carolina.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" style="OLC"><section section-type="section-one" id="idE10D8F72C4F7470E8F4982BC8C3F447D" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Judicial districts of North Carolina</header><subsection id="idC9DC0F0AB35A485BAF90EFB31BBEEE47" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(a)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 113 of title 28, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="id84DB98346C934FB8B59B802EACBA8475" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in subsection (a), by striking <quote>and Wilson and</quote> and inserting <quote>Wilson, those portions of Hoke, Moore, Scotland, and Richmond counties encompassing the Fort Bragg Military Reservation and Camp Mackall, and</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id2961F02D2B6D45F29244F50686220BCA" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking subsection (b) and inserting the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idB59CF12045B649BCB4862B99EF344ADA"><subsection id="idc037a0e3b1614282a5ae5ce7ed0a7382" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(b)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Middle district</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Middle District comprises the counties of Alamance, Cabarrus, Caswell, Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Durham (excluding that portion of Durham County encompassing the Federal Correctional Institution, Butner, North Carolina), Forsyth, Guilford, Hoke (excluding that portion of Hoke County encompassing the Fort Bragg Military Reservation and Camp Mackall), Lee, Montgomery, Moore (excluding that portion of Moore County encompassing the Fort Bragg Military Reservation and Camp Mackall), Orange, Person, Randolph, Richmond (excluding that portion of Richmond County encompassing the Fort Bragg Military Reservation and Camp Mackall), Rockingham, Rowan, Scotland (excluding that portion of Scotland County encompassing the Fort Bragg Military Reservation and Camp Mackall), Stanly, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block display="yes">.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id66902C347AFB470BB7373BD14D207162" commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(b)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Application</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendments made by subsection (a) shall not apply to any action commenced or pending in any judicial district of North Carolina before the date of enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section></legis-body><attestation><attestation-group><attestation-date date="20210617" chamber="Senate">Passed the Senate June 17, 2021.</attestation-date><attestor display="no"></attestor><role>Secretary</role></attestation-group></attestation><endorsement display="yes"></endorsement></bill>
