<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>117th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 1111</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20210414">April 14, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S346">Mr. Lee</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S355">Mr. Cruz</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S399">Mr. Hawley</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S350">Mr. Rubio</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S396">Mrs. Blackburn</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To subject professional baseball clubs to the antitrust laws.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="id0D31389CADE74B519A17F6B4118ABF0B" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Competition in Professional Baseball Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="S1" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Professional baseball subject to antitrust laws</header><subsection id="id85CCC4FBA98044459B131FC297A360F2"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Definition</header><text>In this section, the term <term>antitrust laws</term>—</text><paragraph id="id3790645e817045d0a2db32cf5ba9b6b9"><enum>(1)</enum><text>has the meaning given the term in subsection (a) of the first section of the Clayton Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/12">15 U.S.C. 12</external-xref>); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id2614daafe61d48b0ab90e3abfd69c5d8"><enum>(2)</enum><text>includes section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/45">15 U.S.C. 45</external-xref>) to the extent that such section applies to unfair methods of competition. </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="idCCA93D8DB0A94C73B127C27979598B05"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Removal of exemption</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Professional baseball clubs shall not be exempt from the antitrust laws.</text></subsection><subsection id="id4FA0B3C26C964DCC865E22A0BF5630CC"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Repeal</header><text>Section 27 of the Clayton Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/26b">15 U.S.C. 26b</external-xref>) is repealed.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
