RES. 903</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20220202">February 2, 2022</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="L000559">Mr. Langevin</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="P000593">Mr. Perlmutter</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001114">Mr. Curtis</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S001196">Ms. Stefanik</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HFA00">Committee on Foreign Affairs</committee-name>, and in addition to the Committee on <committee-name committee-id="HGO00">Oversight and Reform</committee-name>, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Commemorating the past success of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams and supporting the United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams in the 2022 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, for 126 years, the Olympic Movement has worked to build a better and more peaceful world by educating young people through amateur athletics, bringing together athletes from many countries in friendly competition, and forging new relationships bound by friendship, solidarity, and fairplay;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the 2022 Olympic Games will take place from February 4, 2022, to February 20, 2022, and the 2022 Paralympic Games will take place from March 4, 2022, to March 13, 2022;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas at the 2022 Olympic Games, athletes from the United States Olympic Team will compete in 109 events across 15 disciplines, and at the 2022 Paralympic Games, athletes from the United States Paralympic Team will compete in 78 events across 6 disciplines;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams have won 216 gold medals, 231 silver medals, and 173 bronze medals, totaling 620 medals, during the past Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the United States plans to send 224 athletes to participate in the 2022 Olympic Winter Games, including 108 women, which will be the largest ever female contingent for the United States at an Olympic Winter Games;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the people of the United States stand united in respect for and admiration of the members of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams and the athletic accomplishments, sportsmanship, and dedication to excellence of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the many accomplishments of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of many others, including individuals on the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and the National Governing Bodies of Sport and the many administrators, coaches, and family members who provided critical support to the athletes;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the people of the United States take great pride in the qualities of commitment to excellence, grace under pressure, and goodwill toward competitors exhibited by the athletes of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Olympic Movement celebrates competition, fairplay, and the pursuit of glory, elevating the eternal qualities of the human spirit to the world stage: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="OLC" id="H8088C0DF9B8B44078BBBD3F49272EAC6"><section id="H2385FC8CB6EF4A6D864582BEC5BB2307" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the House of Representatives— </text><paragraph id="H110C0ACED65941109AC09E769F1FBAC4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>supports the participation of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams in the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in a safe, free, and secure environment;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H8EC13CE916C14CA0BD54EB85C4617988"><enum>(2)</enum><text>applauds the athletes and coaches of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams and their families who support them;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H28D8BB32A0E64D2A8E6F20D98EA63D60"><enum>(3)</enum><text>supports the athletes of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Teams in their endeavors at the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H20A9408B07BE4AADA89DB515575ADF65"><enum>(4)</enum><text>supports the goals and ideals of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.</text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
