RES. 675</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20210922">September 22, 2021</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="N000189">Mr. Newhouse</sponsor> submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HAS00">Committee on Armed Services</committee-name>, and in addition to the Committee on <committee-name committee-id="HVR00">Veterans' Affairs</committee-name>, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned</action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Expressing support for the designation of the week of September 19 through September 25, 2021, as <quote>Gold Star Families Remembrance Week</quote>.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas the last Sunday in September—</text><paragraph id="HEE5BC339D5994662A6361933222CC059"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">is designated as <quote>Gold Star Mother’s Day</quote> under section 111 of title 36, United States Code; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HD5D8D0E614A14BB5868D8FBCA5BA546E"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">was first designated as <quote>Gold Star Mother’s Day</quote> under the Joint Resolution entitled <quote>Joint Resolution designating the last Sunday in September as <quote>Gold Star Mother’s Day</quote>, and for other purposes</quote>, approved June 23, 1936 (49 Stat. 1895);</text></paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas there is no date dedicated to families affected by the loss of a loved one who died in service to the United States;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas a gold star symbolizes a family member who died in the line of duty while serving in the Armed Forces of the United States;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the members and veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States, through their service, bear the burden of protecting the freedom of the people of the United States;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the selfless example of the service of the members and veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States, as well as the sacrifices made by the families of those individuals, inspires all individuals in the United States to sacrifice and work diligently for the good of the United States; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the sacrifices of the families of the fallen members of the Armed Forces and the families of veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States should never be forgotten: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="HB11A74B9B47D4C4ABCFA49AE11B84A53"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="HDE12838779E44D8883AA04D0AC068890"><enum/><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the House of Representatives—</text><paragraph id="H0E10F1DEECAC4B829BD61EAA6FE0066D"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">supports the designation of <quote>Gold Star Families Remembrance Week</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H44347D8A23DB4F3294AB60A817056C4E"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">honors and recognizes the sacrifices made by—</text><subparagraph id="HD626267C83D3425F826466EDD8984A48"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the families of members of the Armed Forces of the United States who made the ultimate sacrifice in order to defend freedom and protect the United States; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H41A6443E90934D9881B8FA272E40E8D6"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the families of veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H08EBBD722D5A4CFEB8E1C6171ED6AE4F" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(3)</enum><text>encourages the people of the United States to observe <quote>Gold Star Families Remembrance Week</quote> by—</text><subparagraph id="HB373BA5ED20B4A8EB407204F28829FB3"><enum>(A)</enum><text>performing acts of service and good will in their communities; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H01AC10334B3E4343BD73412902D9DEB2"><enum>(B)</enum><text>celebrating the lives of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that others could continue to enjoy life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
